Sadly, most people don’t want an economic lecture. I’ve tried explaining what happened in 1971. The eyes just glaze over!
People complain about money, but it’s not quite true! What they’re really complaining about is not having enough money themselves. They’re not complaining because they’re ready to understand how the system works.
And I don’t think that’s wrong, per se. They’re tired. They want solutions, not Atreus’s (absolutely excellent) history lessons. But I have someone in my life I care about (this is not a rando!), who I know would benefit. You probably do too.
I want to use 1,000 sats—maybe 10,000—to show them something they really feel. Something that absolutely hammers home the message.
And he’s a bit of a boomer, so it has to be simple.
What would you do? What’s the fastest way to shift his mindset?
Is not about the amount. The amount will always be viewed from a fiat maxi perspective. A nocoiner start the journey as a fiat maxi.
Do not waste valuable sats if is not ready to understand what really is receveing.

The best simple way to start with a boomer is with a NWC account. Yes are custodial accounts, but if you are a knowledgeable bitcoiner, you run your own "onboarding LN bank" offering "startup accounts" through NWC.

Steps to do with a noob:

  • Create an account (yes is custodial...) on any of the mentioned above apps/services, that support NWC (see https://nwc.dev/), for example the https://lnwallet.app/ is the simplest one, no KYC. Yes ideal will be to give them a NWC account from your LN bank.
  • Use Alby Go or Zeus or BitBanana to connect through NWC to that account
  • Start accumulating sats into that account. With a NWC account (linked to a 24/7 LN node) is easier to buy sats from Robosats for example, or any other LN exchange. As a noob, you can accumulate small amounts until you reach a meaningful amount to open a proper LN channel.
  • Once you reached let's say 10-20-50k sats, go and buy an inbound LSP LN channel. Here is a list of the most used LSPs.
  • For example, we suppose you use Zeus (one of the most complete mobile wallet apps with various connection types), stacking sats in a NWC account and now you want to start opening a LN channel.
  • Add a new embedded LND node in Zeus and please read first this "Getting started with Zeus" guide.
  • Let Zeus to fully sync and put Zeus in "Persistent mode" so the LND service will run in the background. Then hit the button in the "Channels" screen, to "buy inbound channel". Select 500k or better 1M sats channel and hit create order. You will be prompted to pay a LN invoice (the lease of the channel). Copy the invoice code.
  • Go to "Nodes" (top right icon) and select your NWC account. Then pay (paste) that LN invoice to the LSP.
  • Go back to Zeus embedded node and you will see the invoice paid and the channel opening in few moments.
  • Done! Now you are ready to receive directly into self-custody LN channel, with your own LN node on your mobile.
  • Once you fill up that channel, use a swap service (if Zeus is not already integrated the swap service in app) to move like 90% of your channel balance into a "cache level wallet" (see next chapter), where you will build a nice UTXO for cold storage.
  • Once the LN channel is (almost) emptied (never move all the funds, leave like 1-5%) you are ready to repeat the process.
I wrote more guides to follow up:

When the student is ready, the master will show up!

The amount does not matter, you could give it 100k $ in sats and could still still not understand what just happened ... To understand Bitcoin you have to start by understanding the money. And that is the most difficult part. No one absolutely nobody knows how money works, and they don't want to learn either, but if they want to win it and treasure it.
But all that built only on soft money and Fiat illusion. And when we try to show them the truth. They do not capture it. And if they are moderately well at Fiat level it is even more difficult to make them understand that this money is a garbage.

I'd give him a present.
This is a gift that will rise some questions about money and store of value. And I think it's can help him to understand better why Bitcoin is a great solution.
In the picture you can see QR of a public address with $100 worth of Bitcoin. A one hundred dollars bill. And a piece of gold also valued at $100.
IMO, this frame is a good economic class.
By the way, the picture is from a @lunaticoin s video.

This is a way of speaking in the language of fiat how much money rots. I'm going to do the same with my family, because I tried the economic approach, the approach of showing how much banks and governments are the enemy and none of them worked, I "bought" from them the sats that they had piled up and with that amount I'm going to do something similar with this note. Now, when it's time to declare taxes, the way of showing how governments are oppressors works, but they soon forget.

Price.
There's no better marketing or interest-generation than when BTC/USD hits, say, 500k

when BTC/USD hits, say, 500k
THE FIAT MINDSET IS STRONG WITH THIS ONE...
Wrong. If you start onboarding a nocoiner with the price, you are just creating a fiat maxi... that will sell those BTC instantly when the price goes up.
THE ONLY REASON WE ARE ONBOARDING NOCOINERS IS TO FUCK THE GOVS AND BANKS. https://darth-coin.github.io/general/21-reasons-why-bitcoin-en.html

Darth doesn't understand economics. It's very cute

I have a degree in economy. But you are the one that doesn't understand what really is Bitcoin. Bitcoin is not only about fiat price and economy. If you are in Bitcoin for the fiat price, you are a moron.
reply
"in economy" -- yes yes.
No, we're here for a revolution... accompanied by an increased purchasing power

revolution is what the dark occultists want for humanity - one occultocracy replaced with another. what bitcoiners and other awakened people need to strive for is Evolution of consciousness.
have him click thru CoinOS onboarding process, and have him receive 1000 sats. then go find some QR code in Joe Nakamoto's bitcoin videos about a remote poor village living on bitcoin, and send some sats to that address. then have him send the rest of the sats to ur LN wallet. don't let the normie keep those 1000 sats, he did not earn them.

There's no harm in trying. If it's a good friend you can try with more but don't be disappointed if they lose it. I used to give away sats to friends and I think out of the 20-30 people only one managed to start stacking.
I usually show them how fast Lightning is with Wallet of Satoshi. Lately I'm thinking more about zapping over nostr as a first taste but I'm not sure which app and setup is best.

You should first give them knowledge related with money and then gives them opportunity, because knowledge will stay but 1000 sats will be finished
reply
In that case, a thousand sats wouldn't do the magic if shifting his mindset is what you really want to achieve. Cos that's barely a dollar, and like you said, he needs more money and not @Atreus 's history lessons.
reply
If their eyes glaze over you can just finish up whatever you were saying and then finish with, "And that's why I think it's smart for everyone to keep at least some bitcoin in their portfolio"
reply
Lol fastest way to shift their mindset is for their current store of value to go to zero.
We can't think how others think, everyone will have a different trigger if their life doesn't depend on it, if people are comfortable with the status quo its hard for them to think about why they need a solution. Yes people complain about inflation but thats just to vent don't mistake that for someone who wants to take action.
I think we all have our orange pill evanglising phase but then we realise the juice is not worth the squeese.

Why wait till their store of value gets to zero?

He asked what is the fastest, when you have no other way to store value, but Bitcoin the transition is quick
