2017- DE Solomon Thomas- Pick 3 👎 2017- LB Ruben Foster- Pick 31 👎 2018- OT Mike McGlinchey- Pick 9 👎 (not bad but could have had Minkah Fitzpatrick or Lamar Jackson) 2019- DE Nick Bosa- Pick 2 👍 2020- DT Javon Kinlaw- Pick 14 👎 (not bad but injuries and could have had Justin Jefferson, CeeDee Lamb, Jordan Love or Patrick Queen) 2020- WR Brandon Aiyuk- Pick 25 👍 2021- Trey Lance- Pick 3 👎 👎 👎 (huge swing and miss that set youth movement and roster depth back for years. Especially since you could have had Love, who is what Lance was supposed to be, the year before) 2024- Ricky Pearsall- Pick 31 👍

49ers are ranked 8th overall at drafting since Shanahan and Lynch took over. Probably would be top three if not for some of these misses (especially Lance). They have been great in the later rounds but with a top heavy roster and a depleted defensive side of the ball, they can't afford to miss in Round 1 this year. They need at least 3 starters out of this draft and many more to be contributors.

At 31 he is a good pick. They reached a bit but he was really good once he got healthy. He will be 1a to Aiyuk. You could argue now they should have gone McConkey but he had medical red flags. Since Kinlaw the 49ers have not drafted guys with medical red flags early.

DeJean also had medical red flags and unfortunately they don't value C so JPJ and Frazier were not on their board in the first round.

49ers probably have one of the most unique boards of any team in the NFL. That is a positive and a negative. They miss on guys because they take them off for various reasons (medicals, off the field issues, lack of scheme fit, lack of culture fit etc) but they also hit on guys no one else does because they are confident in their culture/scheme/process that they can get the best out of them.

They had a 3rd round draft grade on Purdy but didn't need to take him until the last pick in the draft because they didn't think they needed a QB at the time and no one else had him on their board.

Ok guy whose only knowledge of football comes from memes posted by Eagles fans, who are the dumbest fans in all of sports, sure the team that has been to 4 out of the last 6 NFC Championships and is tied for 3rd most playoff wins in the last 5 years sucks.

If that is sucking. 28 other teams would happily suck.
