People often fall into the trap of mistaking abstract/imaginary power for real/physical power. A recent example is playing out in well-known Proof-of-Stake distributed ledgers.

Summary

Bitcoin bridges the divide between abstract/imaginary power and real/physical power, thus making a system that is pure information (abstract) and yet physically secure, only breakable by directing a huge amount of real world, physical power and resources.

The physical constraints of proof of work is what makes Bitcoin ultra-superior to any purely software based consensus mechanism.
Proof of work allows for only a single winner takes all protocol. This is what you want. This is what's best for humanity. It's also consistently the most profitable long term.
All other monetary systems have expiration dates due to human greed and corruption.
TLDR: Bitcoin is incorruptible. And it's the only money that is.

Comparing Bitcoin to an A-10 is a little unfortunate. The A-10 was built for a problem that never materialized (needing to shoot columns of soviet tanks), they damage themselves when used (A-10's often come back warped after shooting), and they act as little more than a morale booster for ground troops.
