Ever Heard of a Bitcoiner Without Bitcoin?

Have you ever met someone who aligns perfectly with sovereign, freedom oriented bitcoiners, but hasn't got a sat to their name?

I've recently gotten to know one of the Dads from our kids play group. As we keep talking and finding out more about each other, I keep getting stronger signs that this guy is a straight up bitcoiner! However like I mentioned in the title, he hasn't got a sat to his name.

These are some of the things that he has, and some things he has done:

Has an off grid house with a few days worth of excess electricity.
Open sourced transcription data which later got shut down.
Is an avid saver.
Is frugal.
Is generally fascinated in learning and spends a lot of time researching topics he's interested in.

He has actually had some experience with bitcoin from the early years (2011ish) buying a video game. We got talking on the topic and he had a ton of questions which I was super excited to talk about (I need to travel over an hour to go to the nearest bitcoin meetup BTW). He's now reading The Bitcoin Standard and he's always welcome to call me anytime to discuss any further questions.

The thing I keep thinking about is if someone like this really needs bitcoin? Of course it's a yes, but he's likely going to do well in life regardless.

Do any of you have friends like this?

I know a couple of people who understand bitcoin, or mined some in the early days but feel like they have missed the boat because they sold up, or lost it.

I don't know anyone who aligns with sovereignty or freedom where I live. Their idea of an ideal world is expecting the government or local council to do everything for them.

I'm curious (for my own learning), why do you think he needs Bitcoin? :) Seems like he's doing OK without it.

He's definitely doing well without it. In the end he will still need to buy things that he can't produce on the land. It's best to have that capital in bitcoin as it will likely increase in purchasing power over time.

How bout this:

Alice holds bitcoin on Coinbase, trades it sometimes, and is an avid twitter sh$tposter who loves tweeting about price.

Bob has his own off grid electricty, water supply, grows his own food, and believes in freedom.

Who's the bitcoiner?

Neither of the two.

Bob is a perfect candidate, but as long as he doesn't have bitcoins, he's not a bitcoiner. Believing in natural law and being free and sovereign is the desire of every bitcoiner and is the ideal for those who call themselves that. But Bob doesn't have it and he certainly has his virtual wealth in fiat.

Whoever got in contact with bitcoin in early years (2010-2013) and then sold/lost/forget about all, is not a bitcoiner. They do not deserve Bitcoin.

Also Bitcoin is just a tool in the sovereignty. Just because you own some BTC it doesn't mean you are sovereign... there's a long process to became sovereign and BTC is the last one (financial one).

The question is: can you be sovereign without Bitcoin? The simple answer is NO. I've tried all my life to be sovereign in all kind of situations. But I always come back to fiat and banks (until then Bitcoin didn't existed). But once I found Bitcoin, I saw the light, the end of my journey.

He or his friend bought a video game with it around that time. It's common for early bitcoiners to have either lost, spent or sold their sats.

I don't know if he has a bank account. Probably likely that he does. He does have abundant electricity, water, land, and food. He could have animals or grow stuff to sell. He could also strictly use cash for the things he can't produce himself.

No. Those weren't bitcoiners... were losers. This is the correct word: LOSERS. I joined Bitcoin in 2012 and never ever lost a sat or sell it for more fiat. Yes I spent a lot of BTC, because bitcoin is money.

We all know that you're "special".

This guy IS a bitcoiner and he will eventually get is sats in his own time. He just might end up with less because of it. I just don't think he'll be particularly hurt by this. Maybe it's an opportunity cost, maybe more wealth but he'll definitely be able to provide some value in the new world.

Explain how is a bitcoiner that after so many years end up with none, even that he had some in the early years? FFS are 16 years ! not 16 days... even if you keep 1000 sats per year and is still something. Is more than ZERO.

I'm not calling him a bitcoiner because he spent sats in 2011. I'm just saying that he is an obvious bitcoiner because he lives off grid, hates banks and gives away valuable info for free.

No one around me is a true bitcoiner. They're just stacking sats on CEX, waiting for the price to moon.
