A man once won a horse race after he died. This one will have you saying, “What the fact?!” but this dark fun fact is definitely takes “winning spirit” to another level. Frank Hayes was a jockey who suffered a fatal heart attack mid-race. However, his horse still led and finished the race in first place. As such, Hayes was the first and only jockey to win a race posthumously in 1923.

At birth, baby pandas are smaller than mice. Giant pandas may grow to over 6 feet, but one of the interesting fun facts about them is their tiny size upon birth. A newborn panda cub weighs 3-5 ounces and is the measly size of a butter stick. That’s almost 1/900th the size of its mother!

Jack Daniel was believed to die from kicking a safe. Another morbidly funny fact: Jack Daniel was said to die from kicking a vault. According to the tale, he broke his toe after kicking the safe in anger due to not remembering the combination. It was then that he contracted sepsis. However, this admittedly ridiculous story has since been refuted by some experts.

Herring fish communicate by farting. When herring fish release gas, the bubbles it produces make a high-frequency sound that only herring can hear. The fish use this noise to arrange themselves into “protective shoals” during the night to keep them safe from predators.
