I was a bit more distracted than normal this month, but ~econ kept humming along.

We're holding pretty steady, but haven't gotten back to our highs from last year.
With revenue down slightly, I'll move the post fee back towards the previous local max and conclude the posting fee optimization process for now. Going forward the posting fee will be set at 84 sats (until I decide to start messing with it again).
Next month, I'll start the comment fee optimization process.
We're still on pace for a profitable year and having a nice sized fund to pay out the end-of-year awards.
Thanks everyone for supporting this community!
Let me know if you have any suggestions for how to improve the territory.
Good job! I'm not really clued up on all the economics stuff, but I like to know what's happening right now and what they're saying for the future. We could probably do with more posts about how it hits us personally, like personal finance.
reply
go to the Stacker Stocks territory for personal finance
reply
For one element of personal finance, yes.
For things like household budgeting or maximizing airline miles (or whatever), I don't think that's the right place.
reply
I have achieved Gold status with Marriott
reply
Is that their highest status?
reply
Platinum, Titanium and Ambassador are higher
I like that. There used to be a ~PersonalFinance territory where we did that sort of thing.
If you have anything in mind, go ahead and post it, I'm sure it will get some engagement, and I'll try to think up some topics too.
reply
I'm more of an audience member than a performer on this topic, but if the show gets interesting, I'll jump on stage. Ahah

More Canada posts incoming now that CBDC Carney is our fearless leader.

Beautiful!
More completely serious and overly generous statehood offers on the way, then, too.

BTW I had the wrong weekend for the pod recording I wanted to reschedule and also my wife has corrected me. We will be returning on the Friday not the Saturday so the normal time will be fine anyways.
I am just the driver. I have no clue what is going on with this family trip. Haha
reply
I love it when problems just go away on their own
reply
Yes worked out well. We are travelling to the US though so my wife may get arrested for trying to smuggle in an illegal. Haha. That would throw a wrench into the trip.

Silver lining: you'd get to move to El Salvador.
The increase in that period must have been largely due to the rise in prices and the election, right? The numbers are good, everything is very stable, congratulations on the territory.
reply
March and April '24 were sort of outliers, because SN was running an incentives experiment.
The dramatic change came from a small number of previously heavy commenters dropping off.
reply
Interesting to know that. Did this exit happen because of this experiment? Is there a post about it?
reply
The experiment was initially called Million Sat Madness. I'm sure plenty of posts were made about it.
Many stackers left during, and immediately, after the experiment. I don't think it's the explanation for the decline of ~econ commenting though, because that peaked several months later.

I took a look at the original post and many of the accounts that said they were leaving actually haven't posted since that period.
reply
Yeah, it was more alienating than the introduction of Cowboy Credits.
How about you keep the territory fee to a maximum of 99 Sats or maybe lower it to 69? But also increase the comment fee to 5 to 7 Sats? You're doing a great job, and since you're an economist, I guess whatever you do will have some reason behind it. Thanks for doing so much!
reply
Since you're curious, I have been running a crude binary search process to find the optimal post fee.
The fee was 215 (I think), when I took over and I cut it in half. Since revenue went up, I cut it in half again, but revenue went down, so I brought it halfway back, and so on. Technically, I could have let the process play out for a couple of more months, but I knew what the next two moves would be and by then the changes would be trivially small.
I'll do something similar for comments. So, the first will be to keep doubling comment fees until revenue goes down and then start zeroing in on the optimum.

Whoa! As I thought, you're an economist and would be doing something about it. Since I'm a user, there would be some psychology involved; like the number 99 makes me pay more comfortably, and 69 as well, that's a good one. I would have absolutely no problem paying whatever comment fee you set. Revenue might be slightly low compared to before, maybe because activity has slowed down a bit after the introduction of CCs and the price increase of Bitcoin. I think every territory would be seeing slightly lower revenue. But soon, I think it will be back on track. The ~econ territory is like an immortal hen that will definitely lay eggs daily, but sometimes it might be short of one or two it will lay for sure! Let's see, and I'm excited to find out what the pay to post fee of your territory will be when you figure it out! Good luck!
