With the US and others seemingly in a race to return to the Moon there is a pretty critical issue that is facing this goal.... What time is it on the Moon?! Previously, NASA has used the "mission elapsed time" however that is not a solution its more of a band aid.
We also cannot just apply "Earth" time to the moon because time on the moon passes about 58.7 microseconds faster than on Earth. Though it might not seem like much when you are dealing with landing a vehicle you need everything aligned to the T. This is also an issue we will face when we go to Mars as well.
Establishing a time on the Moon is a first step in doing this for other places we visit in the future like Mars and possibly other planetary bodies. The Moon is the first of many but still a super cool bill!
