Sometimes it is best to wait and see if your "logic" might be the best one, only idiots don't change their mind, life is a flux full of twists and turns and require an in the moment detached response. This response may also look like a reverse on some previous decisions. This show of "power" from the core developers might in the end cause a total loss of it ;-)

Yeah, I think we can let this one simmer for a few weeks or a couple months.

Funnily, I don’t think there was any urgency attached to this pull request until it blew up on social media. The next Bitcoin Core release is planned for October. Whether the change were to get merged in May or in August, it wouldn’t come out before October.

I’d say that the sense of urgency was generated by opponents claiming that immediate action was necessary to save Bitcoin.
