Already today there is some merchants using Bitcoin, for example we have a repository of merchants in France https://bitcoin.fr/depenser-ses-bitcoins/ . We have dark markets. When CBDCs come we may not have a choice for certains goods or services and having an always on server with all the channel management is not an option in an adversary environment. 

so what are people buying with bitcoin besides bitcoin stuff?  i have only ever found on merchant that i use regularly who accepts bitcoin (http://literoasters.com)
