Would it? Most sports fans are outta shape. No one likes doing a bunch of work only to sit and watch. Plus you risk getting cut if you aren’t prepared. It’s still a job
You only sit and watch the game (from closer to the action than any fan gets to be). The rest of the week, you get to participate.
Plus you risk getting cut if you aren’t prepared.
Now you're getting to the part I have no rebuttal for. None of us are competent to be backup QB's, and since that would be extremely obvious we'd lose the job very quickly.

Plus people want to maximize their earning potential. Everyone on the planet is trying to increase their income. Why be happy sitting the bench making $12M a year where you can start and make $20M

Well, to that I'd point out that literally only 32 people on Earth are starting QB's, so it's not necessarily rationale to think that's in your career choice set.
Also, your assertion is only really true for men. Women make lots of work-life tradeoffs, whereas men just earn as much as they can until they die.
