THE UNMISTAKABLE IRONY of these wild days was that a technology that had been designed, in no small part, to circumvent government power was now becoming largely driven by and dependent on the attitudes of government officials.
This quote from Digital Gold was describing events from 2013. Watch a few hours of this year's Bitcoin Conference to realize things haven't changed. Maybe they have gotten worse.

Been hearing / reading a lot of stuff like this lately.
Its important to reset the context here. I think I just need to write a long form post on this. I have to remind myself that many bitcoiners might actually think bitcoin was gonna turn everyone against the state... I mean. That's naive.
The tech has not changed. The people haven't really either and that's the point. The thing that has happened is the tent has become bigger. Government leaches have decided it is easier to become an ally of bitcoin rather than an opponent.
Bitcoin could go down different paths and I firmly believe that the vanguard needs to hold the line on many areas but don't let them black pill you. Bitcoin isn't dying or losing. Its winning. A part of this is gonna be things we don't like and are seemingly antithetical to my and your values. This is how money works. Its amoral. And if it is dependent on governments I have yet to see this.
It is that many bitcoiners are dependent on governments. They still think we need big daddy state to care for us. To rule us. I let go of the delusion that people will wake up to this long ago. We will have to obsolete the state. We aren't gonna logic humans out of the delusion.

I agree... and honestly it doesn't surprise or bother me that government is getting involved in bitcoin and that bitcoin influencers are getting in bed with government. It was bound to happen.
What's more important to me is that the network itself stays decentralized and uncensorable

Indeed, but this is still an assumption, not proven. And it's censorship-resistant, not uncensorable. The difference being that at some point censorship can happen, but there are good incentives in place that it will be countered.
Also see Eric's chapter on Axiom of Resistance, which basically states that we cannot stop believing this, because if we did, we wouldn't be talking about bitcoin but something else, like fiat or CBDCs.
The interesting question to me is: are the masses actually thinking about this principle at all and have they ever? Or are they just greedy fiat clowns that will gladly throw themselves into the arms of totalitarianism as long as the overlord pretends to be on their side?
If I'm honest, I kind of fear it's the latter.

Is this even a question? It's history

I meant to say. PRICE may be largely affected by governments but this is because of the issue I point to. Its people. Its always people.

The Bitcoin conference has been an embarrassment thus far.

What was so bad? I haven't paid any attention

It’s a bunch of politicians, tradfi people and people who want shitcoin features on Bitcoin.

The most worrying thing about this is to see how they are hypnotizing some bitcoiners with that government narrative, and you see them applaud all the quilombo that governments are riding around Bitcoin.
For my part, I think I have the vision of the clear and clear path. Pacilla Sats, and be a ghost for the system in most of the aspects that can allow me, mainly ensuring how little or much I managed to accumulate in the years that I still have to live from today and tomorrow. Extracting money from the reach of totalitarian governments is the beginning to be able to extract other aspects of us that make us free from the system and let others maintain mode. I suppose those who refuse to look at the truth of the world.
