BWNBA Week 1
Let’s get weird.

Week 1 in the BWNBA was all about tight scores, late pushes, and a few teams learning the hard way that empty IR spots don’t score fantasy points.

But we start with the game of the week—Guess & Check, left for dead by Saturday, pulls off the only comeback of the week to steal one from MMT, whose 4-game heater from Napheesa Collier just wasn’t enough to close it out. G&C rides a massive 5-game week from franchise anchor Kelsey Plum, who put up a spicy 187.5 fantasy points. That’s not a typo.

Elsewhere, JFT came out like they were shot out of a cannon—754 points, the highest total of the week. Azurá Stevens went off, and Stewie’s squad sent a message, handing the defending champs from New Hampshire Granite their first loss in months. The Granite looked solid, but not polished—championship hangover? We’ll see.

TTT took care of business behind A’ja Wilson and her band of bucket-getters, holding off expansion team KS, who had a big debut week from Alisha Gray and a quiet triple-double threat in Alyssa Thomas.

And speaking of quiet killers—CTEspn, dead last in the league a year ago, limped into Week 1 with injuries up and down the roster... and walked out with a win. No one saw that coming. Jewell Lloyd and Co. are healthy enough to make trouble.

The rookies didn’t waste any time either—Sonia Citron, Kiki Iriafen, and Saniya Rivers made their league debuts count. No training wheels here.

Now, the Bitcoin Treasury? Up 5% on the week. That’s nearly 30% up on the year. Not bad for a group chat of hoopheads orange-pilling each other through fantasy hoops. All zaps help the pot grow. Let’s show the league what the Bitcoin community is all about.

Week 2 has a pair of juicy matchups:
CTEspn vs NH Granite—last year’s worst vs last year’s best.
And JFT vs TTT—two undefeated teams. Two rosters built for fireworks. One will take their first loss.

Combined two things no one cares about to orange pill friends and an industry. Bitcoin & WNBA.Fantasy Basketball League with a btc treasury.  Friends pool fiat together all year for fantasy sports. Why is not hodled in btc? As I’ve learn in this industry, you gotta go out and make it yourself if you want to see it done. Start of year 2. Treasury working as intended. Would encourage other fantasy leagues to try it out. 

The BWNBA—that’s Bitcoin Women’s National Basketball Association—is tipping off its second season, and it’s got a bigger treasury, new blood, and returning champs with a chip on their shoulder.

Built by a Bitcoiner desperate to orange pill friends who “just don’t get it,” this league ditches fiat for sats. Dues go straight into Bitcoin, not Venmo. And this year, the winner will walk away with 60,000 satoshis—but the real flex? The league treasury will grow with every zap.

Let’s break it down.

Treasury: Small Bags, Big Vision
Last year, the BWNBA started with a humble $50 buy-in when Bitcoin was sitting at $66K. This year, another $40 went in around $83K. That brings the league pot to just under 125,000 sats.

Winner gets 60K.

The rest? Held in Bitcoin until the next champion rises. And if the league ever folds, teams split the stack like the last beer at the bar.

Expansion Teams Arrive Loud
Two new squads entered the mix via expansion draft: MMT and KS.

MMT had the kind of draft luck that gets investigated by the league office. They won both lotteries and walked away with Napheesa Collier, Jonquel Jones, and rookie wildcard Sonia Citron. That’s a foundation with firepower.

KS isn’t shy either. They built around Arike Ogunbowale, a scoring machine, and added Alyssa Thomas, who casually posts triple-doubles before lunch. If the goal is chaos, mission accomplished.

Returning Teams Reload
New Hampshire Granite, the reigning champs formerly known as Rookie Fever, are back at #1 in the preseason rankings. They rolled over their winnings to keep the treasury full—a title defense and a savings plan? That’s legacy. Led by Satou Sabally, Rhyne Howard, Tina Charles and Marina Mabrey.

At #2, JFT. They’re guard-heavy and loaded with pace. Breanna Stewart is the rock, but the backcourt goes deep: Jackie Young, Courtney Williams, Brittney Sykes, and Jordin Canada. This team’s running whether you’re ready or not.

#3 is TTT, led by MVP A’ja Wilson and flanked by former college stars Paige Bueckers and Hailey Van Lith. If vibes translated to stats, this squad would already be undefeated.

NNT grabs the #4 slot behind Sabrina Ionescu, Nneka Ogwumike, and DeWanna Bonner. They’re betting on basketball IQ and old-school grit.

CTEspn sits at #5, still anchored by Jewell Loyd, Kahleah Copper, and Dearica Hamby. Quiet killers. You won’t hear them coming—but you’ll feel it when they leave.

KS at #6 brings flash and floor balance. Guess & Check lands at #7 with Kelsey Plum at the point and an army of bigs: Cameron Brink, Angel Reese, and Kamilla Cardoso. Every rebound is a group project.

MMT rounds out the rankings at #8—but they’re already building bulletin-board material. You want the smoke? They brought firewood.
