Ok I think I should make the science territory more fun since I'm more of a science guy myself. I'll be posting some fun illusionary riddles every week that you cannot solve even if you put into ChatGPT so you have to think it yourself. This week's is as follows:

You have two identical cups of water, each at room temperature. In one, you place a single large ice cube. In the other, you crush the same ice cube into small pieces and place them all in.

Question:
Which cup reaches 0°C first and why not the other?

I'll drop a hint after this post receives 200 sats

Neither will hit 0°C.

The first cup will get colder because the solid ice cube will last longer than the smaller chunks, which will melt and stop cooling sooner

that's it! congo!
we've got our winner for this week!
stay tuned until next week with a bigger bounty

Thank you for the sats!

Any time fed

Will it hit 0°C? unless the ice is at like industrially cold and the cup is a very good insulator, I don't think it will.

But if the question is about which makes the water cold faster, my ignorant guess is the crushed ice because it has more surface area.

reply

why do you overthink so much lol but nice try, fed

reply

it's a curse, I agree

reply

ngl, it's on me too

on me

reply

What's the temperature in the room? crush the same ice cube?

reply

Room temperature is considered ~25 degrees celsius

reply

I'd say none of the cups.

My answer was right, after all. How come I didn't win?

Hint: Don’t get tricked by just surface area alone.
