So we have NIP-05 support. If you're logged in and visit your settings, at the bottom you can input your nostr pubkey (64 hex chars). idk what damus is doing with their keys but you'll need to convert it at https://damus.io/key/ if you're using damus.

You can also input your relays if you're into that sort of thing.

If your SN nym is k00b your nostr nym via NIP-05 will be k00b@stacker.news.

Have a great weekend!🍻

Looks like damus is bech32 encoding the keys with a prefix. I should probably support that.

reply

yes please, we are deprecating hex. you will have to promptly convert back to hex on the nip05 side... 😅... but we are trying to move away from humans using hex keys for everything.

This spec exists because I accidentally pasted my hex privkey in a note thinking it was my hex pubkey 😆

It's not just Damus, it's NIP-19 https://github.com/nostr-protocol/nips/blob/master/19.md This way it's easier to distinguish btw pubkey, seckey or event id than hex representation.

reply

I linked to the NIP in that tweet 😉

Why do we need this NIP-05 with domain and stuff, when we have lightning addresses?

reply

Lightning and nostr are different networks. Yet one address can serve them all. My nostr nip05 is erik@nostrplebs.com and I connected that to my alby address. So now my NIP05 became my lightning address too ;) So, you might not need it, but it can be convenient.

If you have a personal site or a business, it allows you to proof you own it. It's a way of linking your identity to your internet domain.

Good. What is next?

reply

I think I’m working on onboarding stuff for new users.

If you mean nostr, idk yet. Going to get acquainted with her NIPs on Sunday.

A bunch of nostr clients support showing a lightning address in your profile. Stackernews also gives you a lightning address. Handy!

Anyone willing to give a step by step to a 6 month old orangutan with learning difficulties? .......I have already converted my pub key to 64 hex and entered into SN settings. What is the way to then get my .......@stacker.news. into the nip-05 identifier in my profile in nostr client ( astral in my case). ?

Which relays are you adding? The regexp might be wrong.

What is the use case of putting a nostr pubkey into my settings?

reply

It's a way to get verified on Nostr using your SN identity.

Nothing considering ur username looks like a nostr pubkey in the first place.

that seems really susceptible to spoofing. have i missed something?

reply

No, it is. But if you know someone on here is legit, then so is their nip-05 if here.

Ideally people use a domain they are well known to control, eg jack used cash.app

reply

should Nostr pubkeys be displayed on SN user profiles?

reply

I think that could help

Nice! Is there a way to see the pubkey of nostr users on SN which have added their pubkey?

reply

Ah, I guess I can just go to stacker.news/.well-known/nostr.json

reply

that file is gonna get large quickly. @k00b should probably support passing the names query string parameter to filter by the name soon

reply

We support the query string too. It’s not going to get that big.

reply

Ah you are right. When I tried it I used names instead of name

Will we be able to add stacker.news as a nostr relay? Maybe implement a 402 payment required to "relay" which may be the same as posting on stacker.news

reply

I'm open to it. People keep saying things like that in the abstract.

As long as normal clear web (aka still being accessible to newbies) URL is not deprecated / does not get replaced that is awesome.

What was the process to implement this exactly? If I own a domain, how do i link it to a nostr key?

reply

Sorry meant to respond.

You just put your name and pubkey in a json file:

https://<your domain>/.well-known/nostr.json

The json is shaped like this:

{
    "names" : {
         "thrown" : <pubkey in hex>
     }
}
