I am resolved to yoga tomorrow for the first time in over a year. I have arranged myself for the occasion - the right studio, time, classes, and commute. I have a shower and place to change as I travel into my work day. I have a travel mat I can carry on my bike or in a backpack. But I'm unsure about garments of the utmost intimacy.
It feels inappropriate to go without underwear, fearing a jailbreak (aka a sackslip), but I'm thinking I might give it a shot. My yesteryogi, without expensive 2-in-1 compression-and-not-shorts, wore boxers under whatever polyester athletic shorts I had clean, but that was occasionally uncomfortable.
Do you tend to one or the other? Have any recommendations?

We can ask our resident yoga instructor.
@denlillaapan, what's your professional recommendation for keeping one's junk comfortably contained?
reply
Keep contained + merino wool for comfort/health

Jailbreak and sackslip got me rolling

Same. MY GOD, still laughing

Great question, and I love the word "sackslip."
At a reeeeal and proper yoga studio nobody cares; nobody is looking at you anyway. (This is why e.g. naked yoga is sort of a thing; it's an internal practice — the world ends at the edge of my mat)
In real life, there's some basic courtesy involved. I'd say go with something that keeps your sack from flapping about + extra separating layer between skin and polyester (do NOT wanna be sweating in polyester, esp not on balls)

I wouldn't normally wear underwear when gyming normal, but if you're yogaing with potentiality of female proximity, it would be wise to make sure the eggs don't hatch mid downward dog, so I'd wear boxers under shorts, and the snug type I mean, not the loose

Boxer briefs. I used to wear regular boxers but they get uncomfortable. Bixer briefs keep everything in place and don't bind up.

I haven't worn underwear at all in years, including to yoga classes. Well, only when I've gone out shopping with the intention of buying new pants or shorts and want to try something on.
But yes, should you proceed to go commando, your choice of shorts is even more important than otherwise! Good luck & enjoy :)
