Yes, it is. But we can't do anything about it. So need to find some other ways. I see there's already a lot of discussion on how to promote SN but I didn't find something very substantial or maybe we (the old and regular stackers) aren't just trying enough to promote SN among the nocoiners.
The one way that I could attract some was telling them that 'SN can be a place where you learn and earn Bitcoin' but the 'earn' part of it seems now that it was against (or isn't there in) SN business model.
Aside note (my informal rant maybe)
I don't know what's wrong in it. Every social media promises to creators that they can earn a share of their revenue. Why can't SN attract new people with the same theme? I've heard SN Core team say that SN is not primarily a site that should be seen as earning opportunity. Why not? What's wrong in that?
I have two answers to that, but I also don't think there's anything wrong with trying to earn sats here.
- Reasonable expectations: The earning potential at SN is fairly limited. If I really applied myself, I don't think I could even net 20k sats regularly. That's going to be a disappointing ceiling for most people.
- It's not what the incentives are designed for. What the rewards and fees are designed for is a higher quality social media experience. That's not incompatible with earning from posting, but it's not optimized for that either.

Yeah the ceiling would be disappointing for most, still I think people would like SN more of put up as 'earning opportunity' before them. As you said we have enough lead (creators) we need more followers, but how? We need to show everyobe that SN is better than X and reddit on its 'contributor programme', it rewards more and it has the best community.

One thing that I've been surprised hasn't worked better is convincing more nostr users to just cross-post from SN. That seems like really low hanging fruit.

Maybe we're just discussing about all of it in vain, there might just not be enough Bitcoiners who can make SN a community of a million people.
Maybe we first need to promote Bitcoin, SN will then be promoted automatically.

I care more about the vibrancy of SN than the number of stackers.
Even just doubling our active users (assuming quality remains high) would make a huge difference.

I can't agree more. I also think if our sleeping stackers rise again, it'd make a huge difference too.

My view has pretty much always been that retaining contributors is better than attracting new ones. Unfortunately, we don't know much about how to do either

dashboards don't solve problems, people ignore information because tweaking dashboards will never be quite as satisfying as field stripping an open breech rifle

Meaning that if I were relying on SN as a source of income, I don't think I could count on doing much better than 20k per day.

can? maybe
should? read Catch-22 fewer than I dunno seven times per life-language, and then my friend you got-a share.
ultimately it stinks of quick and we can't all get rich and live free in pursuit of screen real-estate that isn't owned by microsoft. SN's humbler vision as a cafeteria where you can show up broke and leave hungry with tomorrow's lunch money is more honest than "get paid for warming up the tubes"
