I like the new one. I never really liked the old logo. It seemed too frivolous for a company doing serious things.

I don't know if my eyesight's bad, but I didn't recognize this as a bee right away, maybe because there isn't much contrast between the yellow and white. I'm not against changes, but sometimes when a logo brand is already really well-known, changing it can look strange and, in some cases, that can lead to a drop in brand recognition.

You might be right. Only time will tell if the change was warranted.

It's no big deal, it's 'just' a logo, and those are always down to personal opinion. Changing the name would be way, way more risky.

Nah. Alby started off great. It is now in full shill territory.
reply
23 sats \ 15 replies \ @siggy47 4 Oct
Can you elaborate?
Definition of shill:
shill
/shĭl/
noun
- One who poses as a satisfied customer or an enthusiastic gambler to dupe bystanders into participating in a swindle.
- A person paid to endorse a product favourably, while pretending to be impartial.
- An accomplice at a confidence trick during an auction or gambling game.
It seems to me that they give away innovative products for free. I would not hold it against them if they eventually attempt to make a profit from all the work they have done.
Bitcoin doesn't require communist companies.

I think the point was that people in the global south with even worse fiat financial systems than in the west will benefit most from bitcoin.
Also, I don't think bitcoin cares what you look like.
reply
0 sats \ 5 replies \ @jbschirtzinger 4 Oct
The point is "global". Same root word as globalists, which is why there is so much China here. Hence, shill.

Alby fees are high.
Try Coinos for ease of use and very low fees.

Albys fees are too expensive...approaching usury.
The video is pure hollow man corporate yuck puffery.
Alby are clipping the ticket significantly on each and every transaction.
Slick Narrative Driving Rentseeking Parasites.
I prefer and recommend Coinos.

Alby has 0 added transaction fees, unlike other lightning self-custodial wallets.

Alby Cloud which Alby describes as 'Best for most users seeking convenience and reliable hosting' costs $12.90/month.
Is Alby Cloud even truly self custodial?
Using it you are definitely dependent upon Alby and its cloud services and paying over $150/year in fees.
Coinos which provides equally convenient access to and use of LN costs nothing /month/year. There is no subscription fee. And routing fees are very low, often zero.
If you have the considerable skill and time required to run your own node and channels etc self hosting Alby might be ok, but then do you really need Alby at all if you have that level of technical skill?

12 sats \ 1 reply \ @saunter 4 Oct
Even if Alby Cloud stops operating, you still can recover your funds. You cannot say the same about Coinos.
I agree Coinos is better for beginners and low volume users. Alby Hub is better suited for users who want self-custody and use bitcoin a lot.
reply
0 sats \ 0 replies \ @Solomonsatoshi 5 Oct
I would never keep more than a small amount in a LN wallet anyway so coinos suits me and saves me in time and fees. Albys fees for the Cloud option are guaranteed to cost you hundreds of dollars over time.
For those who want self custody Alby is an option though not sure it would be the best one.
reply
0 sats \ 1 reply \ @OT 4 Oct
Albyhub is just an interface for running your own LN node. Under this setup you set the fee yourself.
reply
0 sats \ 0 replies \ @saunter 4 Oct
It also has a standalone LDK version, so no full blockchain node needed, and that is used for the cloud

Has the new branding made with Ai? it tastes bland, the old bee mascot was funnier and much more friendly. This barely visible white wasp on yellow background, not sure... Fatty bee should stay, that's how I'd have solved it #1248867
The solution, giving an aligned identity to all products, works better than the new logo itself.

The problem in getalby you can't import your blink wallet in getalby that means each time you flash your computer or change brave browser profile needs to import once again, at least as you could import external wallet process is one time linked to your account not in every time.
