Oh..... I thought I was about to have a friend here that was on the same struggle bus lol
Yeah no I have to go into the office and continue to operate as normal which kinda hits some snags when the Department of Energy furloughed 60% of the staff.... Plus the House is in recess to keep pressure on the Senate Dems

Can you get a part time job during shutdown?

It depends on a ton of factors.... From what it is and how I got it, to the pay, and can I quit it immediately without penalty. While I think that this shutdown is going to run till around the end of the week I am not sure it will continue next week because that is when active duty military paychecks are affected which is likely to get big time attention.

How were active duty military personnel affected by shutdowns in 1995-96 and 2018-19?
I am guessing you cannot file for unemployment insurance?

You can get unemployment insurance, but you have to pay it back after the shutdown

TBH it just depends some I others I have seen up to 80% others 40% it just depends on what they do and how important that is to the mission.

And, it might be different this year because so many people who would normally be furloughed got layed off recently
I'm not sure. I recall hearing that most feds get furloughed so it fits with that.
I've mostly known economists who work for the feds and they all get furloughed

I don't think anything about outside employment changes during a shutdown, since you're still an employee officially
