I've been thinking about this more and more, and would like to learn more from all of you.

Besides the more obvious things like clothing, and first-aid kits, what else do you keep at hand?

  • Battery bank
  • Portable solar
  • Water cleaner (make it drinkable)
  • Heat/cold blankets
  • Long-life food
  • ... what else?

I don't have an emergency backpack. I'm not a big 'planner' but I'd like to get better; I tend to spend most of my time thinking 2 weeks out at most.

Prepping in this way though increasingly seems reasonable to me.

Possible good additions to the list:

  • self-defense "tools"
  • actual tools: rope, duct tape, multitool
  • emergency comms, e.g. satellite phone, walkie talkies
  • flashlight

If Internet goes down then 2-way radios will be a high priority item.

What would need to happen for internet to “go down”?

Just 12 / 24 words
One copy in my head (memorized)
One copy inserted into an online blog
One copy inserted into a nice picture (steganography) and saved somewhere online
One copy in an encrypted USB memory (with TailsOS and with me always)
One copy in an encrypted USB memory hidden in a secret place, easy to recover

I don't need anything else.
