ugh I hate introducing bugs when I fix address rare edge cases. it makes me worried that reality is programming me to ignore rare edge cases.

Problem was on our end. I shipped a change yesterday that short circuited a transition and caused this delay.
I'll push a fix now. Thanks for reporting!

Does anyone know about a good linux VPS service that offer free trial and ideally accept bitcoin payments without any kyc info?

Here is a giant database with all you need. https://bitcoin-vps.com

bitcoin does not exist, it's a figment of imagination; VPS - that's a virtual pleb service, not important; nothing to see here =)

I memba the old days of DOS games when you had to tweak your config.sys and autoexec.bat to load up as much memory you can for games.
DEVICE=HIMEM.SYS DEVICE=EMM386.EXE I=B000-B7FF I=BC00-BFFF DOS=HIGH, UMB

And, when intel made new CPUs, like 286->386 that you had to wrap frogger.exe in a cpu tick throttler so that you could actually play it

not quite accurate, because con- means "together" but it's still funny; "con" as a slang word may also be short for "con-spiracy" (breathe together, spirare, same root as in spirit), hence the expression "to con someone into believing a lie;"

If elliptic curve cryptography is ever broken, I hope we don't lose too many people to suicide. It's one of those situations where people could lose not only their life savings, but also their identity. Not their nym, but their identity as someone who is a bitcoiner.
Even if the cracks show slowly and new key options are added, there will still be all those old UTXOs out there that are ripe for the picking. Even setting aside the broken trust in the system’s security, just think about what that would do to the economics.
DES was once thought to be secure. It fell. MD5 was once thought to be secure. It doesn't look so good now. SHA-1 is already showing that collisions are easier than we thought.
It seems inevitable that, given a long enough timeline, all algorithms will eventually fall from grace.
reply
If your identity is a key, how do you roll your key?

Very insightful. I was just thinking about this. Bitcoin is software a tool to help better our lives. Many of us are risking it all in hopes of having a better life and more time with doing things we love and enjoy.
But I often think what happens if a zero day bug is exploited or like you mentioned the protocol’s cryptography gets cracked it would have massive implications for so many.
But to defeat this risk is quite simple. Have food and a home and start from zero again. Move on to the next day.

I sometimes wonder if a complete digital reset wouldn’t actually be good in the long run. If you can’t communicate with people all around the world pixels on a screen 24/7, we might actually care more about the people around us.
reply
i imagine a world where we still have a lot of new tech, like fast computers for playing games, but we somehow didn't have instant speed digital communication, and I feel like that world would actually be better...
but it's not really possible to go back. there's no possible way to enforce any agreement not to use tech that exists

Places like this still exist. Less screen time --> more talking, more time spent together, and people have way more energy and are generally happier.

We don't need much in life to be happy. Air, food, water, shelter, love, I think that's pretty much it. No bitcoin needed.
Reducing one's own identity to "bitcoiner" is the problem.
