Hell, It wouldn't surprise me at all if it was the reason, lol.. First time I've ever heard of this actually, which is kinda surprising to me that I never read about this.

It's a theory. Interestingly, Seymour Hersh pushed this theory. The same guy who revealed the US responsibility for the nordstream pipeline explosion. He's had a long career as an investigative journalist dating back to Vietnam.
