Brought to you by @sox, all text areas now have a markdown toolbar. Hit the Aa next to the paperclip in the upper right hand of the editor, and a markdown toolbar will appear assisting you as you craft markdown.

If you notice any surprising behavior with these, please let us know! There are many cases where the behavior is a matter of opinion and we may not be doing the right thing.

There's a also a bunch of keyboard shortcuts for these markdown helpers:

actionshortcut
link⌘K
bold⌘B
italic⌘I
quote⌃⇧Q
inlineCode⌘E
superscript⌘.
subscript⌘,
strikethrough⌘⇧X
h1⌘⌥1
h2⌘⌥2
h3⌘⌥3
numberedList⌘⇧7
bulletList⌘⇧8
check⌘⇧9
codeblock⌘⌥C
upload⌘U
preview⌘P
submit⌘Enter

on non-Mac systems ⌘/⌃ is CTRL

Because all of this continues and further depends on the WYSIWYG system, the WYSIWYG should ship in relatively short order.

I'm continuing to work on reintroducing a freebie system and specing out one-click, built-in wallets.

Between this and the last release, we improved a few things without announcing them:

  • image and media rendering were given placeholders, preventing layout shift
  • the login and signup pages were subtly adjusted
  • alice of wonderland gifs on status pages were replaced with western themed ones
  • wallet configuration forms were given a confirm step
  • global wallet settings were moved to a tab in the settings page
  • login settings were moved to a tab in the settings page
  • signing up buttons are easier to find when logged out
  • on sign up, folks receive a welcome notification with a few pointers

That'll do it.

Nice!

There doesn't seem to be one for links though? I never remember how to add a link with text. I always get it wrong: either put the URL before the text, or I use the wrong order of parentheses vs square brackets.

Thanks! On mobile in portrait mode I didn't see it until I scrolled the toolbar to the right.

Sorry about that! This is the toolbar early design, and we know that the horizontal scroll is not intuitive. We’ll iterate on the UI 🫡

I forgot to add a whitespace after clicking toolbar buttons on collapsed selections (no ranged selection) D:

Aww, poor Alice.

But fuck yes for the toolbar! Fantastic addition.

reply

I'm gonna miss the Alice gifs

reply

Me too. I had a hard time letting them go.

I fantasize about creating our own animations for these pages, fitting some cowboy narrative we weave through the site. Maybe they can be Alice-esque.

reply

Yes please. Old animation were so fair, it never made me angry when something refused to work.

I'd like to see there new cowboy/girl-alice character

One of the instances flaked on deployment ... so this change isn't actually visible some of the time ... I'm working to resolve it.

reply

Still not resolved. This is what I deserve for getting cute with scale-in protection.
