What's a wrong reason?
Someone is targeting Den's posts because he doesn't have an attached sending wallet. A lot of his posts have 1,000+ upzaps but also 800+ downzaps and so they're not showing up in Hot
Not sure if this is happening to other users as well

I'm thinking of allowing folks to toggle on the horse/gun from their settings - no wallet required. We've also been wanting to only display them on profile pages for clutter reasons.
Also, I'm implementing #1406989 this week which should help in fighting fits of irrationality - past downzaps are on unequal footing with current upzaps.
Making weight of zaps = weight of downzaps = weight of boost is another thing we're considering. But it makes defense 3x more expensive for the same provable sacrifice. It's tricky.
I'm implementing things we were planning to implement anyway, because they get at the issue obliquely. If that's not enough, we'll go a more direct route.

you know what's funny? you can have a horse/gun even if your wallet is down and not working.
This really is a microcosm of the attention economy. This wouldn't matter so much if Hot wasn't basically the prime attention allocator.
Even if I set my visibility filter to -1,000, downzapped posts are still effectively invisible to me due to my inability to maintain perfect attention. I'd have to catch them on Recent about the time they're posted. (My other option is to find a comment worth clicking on when I do Recent -> Comments which then helps me find the post.)
Hot and top are broken, recent is the way to go. That’s what I’ve been doing ever since I joined SN.
What doesn’t really make sense is a post getting 1,000 up sats from 10 people, and then one person with 333 down sats being able to cancel it out. That needs to be rethought.
The solution is to zap more and zap often.
It's all about downzapping for the wrong reasons!
