I have similar things wrt the current Russia-Ukraine conflict, where I've only heard indirect evidence for opposite claims in the narratives from both sides. That conflict is happening right now, and the best we have is bellingcat...

I have unfortunately become extremely skeptical of stuff that happened earlier than "right now" because of this.

I can see why. I'm reading a first person account of what I think of as the Armenian genocide, but Turkish people don't call it that.
