Our most junior team member lives in Rivers province and was unlucky enough to be nearby as some election mischief was going down that resulted in the military firing on the mischief makers. Things are crazy over there at the moment. Whenever our boy is out of the loop for a while I worry about him.

Wow. That part where it says that they have a weekly withdrawal limit of $677. I'm just thinking it's only a matter of time before that's here. Imagine everyone has a limit to $1200 a week. Just saying for Americans the average person doesn't make that much in a week. More than 67% of people are living paycheck to paycheck. Monitoring peoples bank accounts is something that I've already tried to float by imagine they had CBDC. They can pretty much cement the idea that there will be no revolution against them.

This is the way most countries will end up adopting Bitcoin - Currency crisis.

Nigerians had already chosen Bitcoin long before the government tried to impose its eNaira.
The government is trying to impose its eNaira precisely to combat the choice made by Nigerians to use Bitcoin instead of the local currency.
The Nigerian government may continue to try to impose its eNaira by reducing access to cash, but the choice of the people is already made. The government will have no choice but to bow sooner or later to the people's choice to opt for Bitcoin.

Nigeria has higher bitcoin adoption than other African nations, but there is still a lot of stable coin use and plenty of shitcoin use. Just spend some time on youtube checking out Nigerian "Crypto" channels. The moonboys on there pushing pump and dumps would make the ones we're used to in the US blush. Scam city.

I have a few friends in Nigeria and indeed, it's not just Bitcoin that is being used. In fact, the situation in Nigeria right now is this: everything but eNaira or Naira.
This obviously implies that Nigerians are also buying Shitcoins. As long as it is not a currency manipulated by their government, they prefer to put their money in it before it is too late.
But little by little they will come to Bitcoin exclusively.

I agree with you completely. I don't have personal knowledge of this on the ground. I really liked Anita Posch's interview with Ray Youssef about what he's seeing with paxful in Nigeria.

Not the Naira crisis, but sorry to say, it's the failure that we have around the globe. Fiat Currencies stand nowhere against Cryptocurrency. It will be much better if everyone understands this as soon as possible lest you are also rekt by fiat's tendency of devaluing in terms of purchasing power.

2 buddies of mine I play soccer with are from Nigeria and they tell me its a mess, lol not that South Africa isn't a complete mess either, but the fact that they prefer being here with a slightly, not by much better currency and up to 12 hour blackouts in a day just shows you how far the naira has fallen
I feel like this eNaira push is only going to fracture the country even more, and people will begin to push for splitting up, as shit as fiat money and national currency is, it does provide a reason to deal with parts of the country that may feel independent, many African countries have this issue.
When the currency fails, you will always see people wishing to go out on their own
