This is a follow up post to #1506654.

Had to wait a few weeks for my local young entrepreneurs to return. The past two weeks we had thunderstorms on Thursdays so they weren't out cleaning bins. But today was a great day to solicit business because the skies are clear and it has been super hot, so dirty bins are "ripe" for a good cleaning.

I was somewhat impressed. The guys came to the door and asked if we needed our bins cleaned. I asked if they remembered our deal from a few weeks ago and the older one said yes "I got a bitcoin wallet". I said great I will pay you in Bitcoin. Typically they charge $15 for 3 bins. That currently translates to around 17k sats in Canadian dollars. So I told them I would give them 20k sats.

Unfortunately they had downloaded a wallet that only supports on-chain transactions. Something called Trust wallet. I had never heard of it. Looks like it is a crypto wallet more than a Bitcoin wallet. Anyways, I explained to them that on-chain transactions are not instantaneous and take usually around 10 minutes to settle but it could be longer. I scanned the QR code their wallet generated and sent them 20k sats. Luckily 2 confirmations came through before they were done.

I suggested they get a Bitcoin lightning wallet for next time as the payment would settle instantly. I did not recommend one for them. My aim is for them to research and learn on their own.

They did a very nice job so I also gave them some advice on other services they can offer.

To be continued...

Well done!

Though Trustwallet is one of the worst. Maybe they could import their seed in Blue Wallet, albeit I wouldn't even trust the seed from "Trust"wallet, haha.

You can totally pay them on-chain as transaction do appear instantly even if not yet confirmed. Although for those amount, yeah, Lightning might be better. Wallet Of Satoshi is one of the easiest and allows for both Lightning and On-chain.

So you may recommend them to create another wallet on Blue Wallet and move their funds there once it's a little bigger.

Great that you convinced them anyway!

I hope they will get themselves a lightning wallet.

Hell yeah! 20,000 sats onchain! Those kids are gonna have a great tale for the grandkids.

Back in my day I cleaned garbage bins for 20k sats onchain.

"Grandpa is off his rocker again. 20k sats is the price of a house".

That’s pretty neat. I think those are the type of conversations that actually get BTC adoption. If you have a need for a service, show the ease of how to use it. We use QR codes all the time (coupons, running event bibs, advertisements on tv screens in commercials aka Amazon). I still get a lot of resistance when talking about bitcoin. It’s like when you speak critically about fiat or the US dollar, it’s like you’re shaming grandmothers Apple pie or American baseball. I still can’t wrap my mind around it but I think it’s really because most people never stop to ask how the dollar works and that, without knowing, you are trading your time for Monopoly money the government can issue indefinitely, automatically reducing its value through inflation.

Awesome!

Also never heard of that wallet

Seems to be popular. I looked it up on the app store after they left and it had 14k reviews.

That wallet was acquired by Binance 8 years ago. It's never been a very secure wallet (too many shitcoins)

You did a hell of a job. The details will never be as perfect as we want, but you accomplished something for them and all of us. Please keep us updated.

I like these kids. They said they got the idea watching Tik tok videos about side hustles.

If they download a lightning wallet, you can teach them about SN and show them how your post earned bitcoin.

Looking forward to hearing more about their bin cleaning business.

Trust Wallet is literally at the very bottom of the list. Binance made it closed source after they acquired it, and they removed the ability to generate new addresses for each payment.

reply

Really? wow that’s brutal.

reply

Aah neat, more SEO fodder for the "What is bitcoin lightning" searches. muhaa-ha!

reply

I am tricking all the traders who use "google searches" as an indicator into flipping bullish.

reply

Very very nice. Now I wonder if they are thinking this bitcoin is great but where can I spend it!!?

reply

And what is it gonna be worth next week??

Should have given them STRC, and explained "digital credit"

reply

That's lesson 3. "Now listen to 1000 hours of Michael Saylor podcasts and if you do you can have 1 share of STRC".

Trust wallet is the worst... It also has the most users

Bravo! Goes to show that when one is determined enough, he will go out of his way to achieve his goal. Those two boys seem hungry enough

They said they got the idea watching tik tok videos about side hustles. Nice to see some kids are using social media to learn things.

Very cool! There is hope for the youth yet! I wonder if it is just that sales are hard and they didn't want to risk losing you by refusing to accept bitcoin, or if the younger generations don't have the same scam association that the older generations seem to carry.

reply

They seemed ambitious. They seem happy to have the business. Plus I gave them some pointers and advice.

reply

Rare people do on chain transactions

reply

I usually do a couple a week.

reply

I take anything I can get

reply

I’ll take anything not bolted down
