was there a time in which you insisted your children tackle something that didn’t catch their fancy in hopes that their indifference would blossom into affection

I don't think I had hopes that they would get into any particular sport, but I do remember my own experience as a child usually opting out of most things because they seemed uncomfortable, but being happy to have done them in most of the cases where my participation was compelled.
I've forced my kids to do a few things, with mixed results. Most of the time it becomes something they are happy to have done, though.

It is difficult to decide which activities we should compell our children to do -- some children resist things that feel different or uncomfortable (which most sports do the first time you try them) and there is definitely a role for a parent to provide a push for their children.
I think my answer is yes.
