I don't think I had hopes that they would get into any particular sport, but I do remember my own experience as a child usually opting out of most things because they seemed uncomfortable, but being happy to have done them in most of the cases where my participation was compelled. 

I've forced my kids to do a few things, with mixed results. Most of the time it becomes something they are happy to have done, though.
