NOTHING makes me feel more European than fighting back at the globalist-technologist AC bullshit
A brutal heat wave in Europe has caused a surge in deaths across the continent as temperatures topped 100 degrees in recent weeks [Published, July 14]. In France, authorities reported at least 2,000 additional deaths in a single week. Germany has reported more than 5,000 excess deaths this year.
So here Ms Follett is out arguing that
a) Europeans are idiots,
b) regulations to stop AC is silly
c) America is great in part because AC,
d) and OMG such great progress, look at tEkNHOOOOLogy fixing our problems
even as mortality spikes, Europeans continue to resist the one technology that could save their lives: air conditioning. Air conditioning is one of modern civilization’s most important yet underappreciated inventions
Goddamnit, I've never hated the progress types more than right now.
OK, first some clean-up
Yes, Europooreans are idiots.
Yes, regulations (in general) are stupid. Granted.
And yes, the stupidly arranged grid and energy supply, courtesy of ESG-climate-change mania that runs the continent, has made widespread AC usage pretty impossible and/or prohibitively expensive. I don't support any of that either.
But Follett's case is somewhere between stupid and retarded. The most egregious error, aside from engaging with the REAL arguments of what's good life, what's the human body made for, what's natural and real and authentic (vs fake, made-up, artificial, and short-term-nice-long-term-disastrous), is to pretend that AC electricity use (in an electricity-constrained continent) is a non-issue because of marginal efficiency gains in US AC machines. So. Fucking. What?!
as European countries fret over energy consumption, modern AC systems have become increasingly energy efficient. The U.S. Energy Information Administration notes that even as the share of U.S. homes with AC has increased, average household energy use has declined, partly thanks to “improved efficiencies of … cooling equipment.”
What I DO SUPPORT is that AC is retarded. Unhealthy, unfitting, unsuitable for human lives.
I don't care what they, or some paid-off medical examiner says, in some faked, peer-reviewed Big-Pharma financed nonsense that qualifies as "science": I subscribe to this "AC phobia" wholeheartedly:
And yes, I've been to America, spent a whole summer in the South -- another summer in balmy New England. Going between outdoor (hot, humid) and indoor (cold/freezing AC) rooms definitely has a negative impact on your health, sinuses, wellbeing, energy levels, and any other subjective sense of internal being you can notice. I've never been more cold than in the heavily AC'd house that is the Mises Institute (in Auburn, Alabama)... fucking unbearable.
Also: have you been on an airplane? Those horrid, AC-dominated enclosed spaces? (Yes, yes; more factors at play = population density, infection risks etc. Still. My sinuses are always fucked after a flight... nothing to do with the world-saving, amazing AC, no??)
So, what's the solution when it's hot af outside and your underdeveloped country's electricity grid/regulations/culture can't suppose AC?
First, You go live someplace cooler! #1537134. Secondly and more to the point: humans are biologically definitely made to endure the heat -- see tribes, investigate biological purpose of sweat glands -- but they're not made to be fat, sedentary, vitamin-D deficient and hiding in poorly ventilated offices doing meaningless slave labor that masquerades as "work" Like, cmon.
OR, endure. Build up tolerance. Sauna is (proooobably) good for you #1535748, meaning a real-life sauna with nice rays of sun and the other beneficial effects of direct sunlight is BETTER YET.
There's no way the constant shifting between natural, 35C/100F outdoor sunlight and the artificial, faked, poorly filtered 18C/67F indoor AC is a good thing. I don't care how may elderly "excess deaths" you "prevent" (fuck the boomers, anyway).
"modern understanding has advanced, and not just in medicine. Humanity now knows how to cool buildings with technology and that the best way to treat heatstroke is rapid cooling, not bloodletting."
AC opponents like to imagine they are leading humanity toward a wiser, more sustainable future. But forgoing air conditioning is a refusal to move on from a lethally hot past.
Sure fine, so you granted implicitly that this isn't a climate change issue? (THANK YOU VERY MUCH) and also, fuck you: be healthier and live more in tune with nature instead of increasingly distant from it.

That final line takes all the fun out of teasing you for being a jealous of American awesomeness Europoorean.
Actually it didn’t. That was still fun.
