sat down with my dad this weekend because he keeps asking what this bitcoin thing actually is. instead of explaining blockchain, I just had him scan a 500 sat invoice and pay it with his phone. took him maybe ten seconds
he looked confused when I said it settled already and there's no bank in the middle. then he asked if that means he can send me money without asking anyone, and I said yeah, that's basically the whole point
he still thinks the price is a casino, but he stopped calling it magic internet money. small wins
this i how you onboard people , not by trying to explain the technology and inner working of the blockchain but by showing it works and how easy it is .. car salesman don't give you a lesson in how the engine is built and what every single component does .. that's for the advanced car enthusiasts not the average foks
It is magic internet money, though
Hahaha, the evolution should've been "He stopped calling it a scam, now he calls it magic internet money"
But I'd take it too either way OP!
Good strategy. Treat him to a meal at Steak & Shake next. I'm trying this with curious normies and they are always shocked that you can pay with bitcoin.
that's a great next step honestly. watching a lightning payment just work is the best pitch there is and food is the perfect excuse to try it
lol I hadn't heard Steak & Shake takes bitcoin, that might be the perfect next step. watching it actually settle at a register is way more convincing than anything I can explain.
That's how you do it! An experience of receiving a LN payment is worth more than a thousand words.
thanks. watching it click was better than any explanation I could've given him
