Landlord took $1350 out of our deposit for yard debris and not trimming a tree. Last rental the landlord charged us $150 for him to take his own shower curtain rod from the bathroom and put it in the trash.

In both cases, and anytime we move, we patch every thumbtack hole in the walls and get professional cleaners and landscapers to leave the home in as much of an ideal state as we can. We've also usually made upgrades by the time we've left, e.g. insulating the garage door and installing shelves.

This kind of why-not-fuck-people-over-if-I-benefit normalizes into humans building a Terminator future.

Oh and, as a bit of karma, they wanted to jack up our rent (after being appalled whenever I tried to negotiate) and it's sitting vacant on Zillow for 15% less than what we were paying.
