The Bitcoin community appears to be turning a blind eye to Jack's previous involvement in undermining free speech during his tenure as CEO of Twitter. There seems to be a lack of interest in holding him accountable. This stands in contrast to the way in which people have held Elon Musk accountable for his actions.

While I recognise that social media has been co-opted by the State and political activists, and that as the CEO, he had the responsibility to protect the interests of the company's shareholders, I'm still surprised that nobody is questioning the role he played while he was at Twitter. For instance, he made demonstrably false public statements about shadow-banning practices at Twitter, he participated in the censoring of the NY post article about Hunter's laptop, and in the disappearance of reasonable voices from Twitter before and during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Laura Loomer, one of Jack's victims, publicly called him out during the Miami Bitcoin conference a few years ago, but Jack was conveniently shielded from her criticism, and she was dismissed on the basis of her "racist views"...

I haven't done any big research on him and his actions at Twitter but so far my view on this matter is that people can change and deserve a second chance.

Again, without being very knowledgeable about this topic, but what I've read he seems to regret some decisions he made at Twitter like it not becoming a protocol like nostr now.

Also, I am interested in what you think us holding him accountable should look like?

You are completely missing the point!

I only mentioned Loomer because of the confrontation she had with Jack at the conference, and because the community appeared to be willing to sacrifice their principles so easily because Jack's "on our side" (my opinion, a bit oversimplify, and I admit could be wrong). And yes, she's one of the victims of the censorship at Twitter, whether you like it/her or not.
No one is arguing about Jack's contribution and achievements. Mistakes were made and it's legitimate to openly discuss to prevent history from repeating itself. Only then we can move on. Jack was recently confronted at Nostrica and he gave a very insightful explanation of the dynamics that led to the whole mess at Twitter. It's great to see how he's now trying to apply the lessons he's learned to ensure the same thing doesn't happen to nostr! #162615

I don't know much about it, but I imagine running a popular social media platform of that scale requires compliance and creates certain incentives, also pressures don't appear overnight, but creep in slowly and push you into a corner and it takes a major leap to say enough is enough. No, the science was consistent. Scientists communicatet clearly what the state of the knowledge was, what was unclear and what was still debated. Maybe a few morons were overstating the facts - if you're debating against them you're debating against a strawman.

There were conspiracies on both sides. The more damaging conspiracies were spread by governments. Dismissing and not allowing dissident thoughts and an open discussion made it worse.

I may be wrong but Jack seems to have explained the pressures of Twitter. He did it as recently as Nostrica, when someone asked how Nostr could avoid the mistakes Twitter made. And Jack practically explained how the incentives made twitter what it was. And coincidentally nothing has changed despite Twitter gettin a new owner. So theres that.

Yea, discussion is always good, so I'm glad you posted. Not trying to slander you or anything by saying you may be a bit too critical. I'm probly too critical of a lot of certain celebs & politicians myself.

I probly wouldn't have commented if I hadn't been at Nostrica and met Jack myself. He came across as someone with a fuckton of integrity. He seemed very grounded, and humble. There's a side to him (that most business or tech people don't have) that I can only describe as "spiritual". But that's just my subjective feeling... meeting someone once doesn't mean shit, so maybe I'm wrong.

Anyway, people are flawed. Of all the people that should be held accountable for things they have done in the past Jack should be pretty low on to list. I'd rather see politicians like Bush, Obama, Clinton, Trump, and Biden held accountable. But life is to short. Let it go would be my advice.

I remember watching that JRE episode with Tim Pool, Jack, and Vijaya Gadde and the whole thing felt cringe to me. I felt bad for him given the political and corporate hell-scape he built (or witnessed be built) around him.

I have no idea what he was or was not personally involved with or responsible for, but as a CEO, that falls on him regardless and some more transparency after the fact would've be nice.

But I'm sure there's more to it - whether it be contractual obligations, legal threats, state threats (as mentioned), etc.

Past demons should not be swept under rugs, but brought to light.
