Bitcoin 2023 is hosting perhaps the biggest Bitcoin conference of the year in Miami over the next few days, so we’ve set up a dedicated thread for sharing all your favorite announcements, mic-drop panels, new ideas, and more from the event in real-time.
The event will be live-streamed too, and the full schedule can be found here.
Whether you’re at the event, watching the stream online, or curious to learn more about the ideas being discussed, this thread is for anyone to share their favorite moments or ask any questions they have.
I'm watching the distressed investing panel, and I realize that my own biases prevent me from getting as much out of a discussion as I might otherwise. Every time one of these Wall Street guys uses the word "crypto" I automatically discard anything they say.

Open Source stage, the only legit thing about this whole shitcoin conference.

So I got a day off today. Naturally, I spent the whole day playing Tears of the Kingdom, but I did leave the conference livestream on in the background and paid some attention to it when I'm not busy fighting a moblin or a construct. A few thoughts:
  • oh the shitcoinery... I thought it was a bitcoin conference?
  • too many politicians, wtf? I don't believe mass adoption will occur through politicians or nation state adoptions. Mass adoption will only occur through education and people truly understanding bitcoin.
  • I like Saylor's 10 rules. Those are good advices, easier said than done though. But definitely worth mentioning to young people, or actually other people in general.
  • is Mallers trying to imitate Apple? All those UI redesigns and even the slides seem very Apple like... either way, good to see another entrepreneur trying to grow their business. Personally, I don't really care about custodial services and KYC services. Let the free market decide, over the long run, if Strike is worthy or not.
  • oh man, they didn't fight when talking about ordinals and inscriptions. I was looking forward to some action. Should have got Max Keiser on there, much better chance of seeing him throw some punches at those kids.
  • TOTK is such a great game and I'm glad my main focus of the day was on TOTK and not the conference...

What's the plan for tonight folks? Any stacker.news parties in Miami?

My take on this so called Bitcoin conference...
  1. Important and interesting things happen on the secondary stage, the open source stage. The main stage is full of bullshit propaganda and people that have no idea what is Bitcoin and why they are there.
  2. Bringing politicians and especially presidential candidates on the stage is a BIG mistake. You practically make their political game. These people are NOT there to help you, are there to GET THE POWER over you. You are fooled if you believe that politicians care about you and your bitcoins. Especially RFK, he was put in that presidential race EXACTLY to fool you, to give you false hope, to move your attention from more important things. He will never win any elections, no matter what you will think. He was pushed and trained "to be with bitcoiners" so later can be demolished in the campaign, is just a puppet. The whole political game is rigged and people still do not realize that.
  3. Bitcoiners don't need any "right" to run their nodes. THEY JUST RUN THEM! Honeybadger doesn't care about any cheap political promise. I don't need anybody to give me any "right" to use Bitcoin. I just use it and I don't give a shit about any politician. Is not their damn business what am I doing with my own money.
  4. STOP following false idols and figures! Stop giving them a stage where they can manipulate the weak minds with false political speeches.
Here I also explained how I would like to see these conferences: #180224
I will repeat this over and over until more people will understand it: Bitcoin adoption will happen only when people will learn to be sovereign individuals, not with politicians "help" and speeches.

Well said!
Add some others:
#5 - Don’t bother calling it a “Bitcoin” conference if shitcoins are going to be included. If they are going to just make a circus out of it, then simply call it a crypto conference.
#6 - If you are going to charge attendees hundreds of $ in fiat to attend; why give free passes to high net worth “speakers?” (Unless that’s just a rumor).

What's the best bitcoin conference? I've never been to one and curious to know if I am missing out on stuff.

What's the best bitcoin conference?
The first one in 2011. Little to no mainstream hype. Good talks. The world was our oyster back then.

i went to my first bitcoin conference (btc++) a few weeks ago in austin. it was really high-signal and focused on lightning builders, but i don’t think that’s typical for Bitcoin conferences
reply
TabConf and bitcoin++ for devs all day. BitBlockBoom for slightly more cultural stuff I hear (never attended tho).
reply
Ohh, thanks, you reminded me that I still have to watch the clip that @fiatjaf sent me regarding Paul Sztorc and Hivemind from TabConf 2018:
reply
bitblockboom seems legit, never been though
reply
I realised, after a few years watching the conference and watching it live now.... its a conference that isnt for any hodler of 1+ year into Bitcoin but its only for newbies (very useful)
sorry guys ... dont want to hear the same old thing that we all know about banks, regulatory clarity, bla bla bla :)

There is the show (which I don't share inviting candidates, other shitcoins, etc.) and there is the dev side (which we don't listen too much like lighting Splice, Mempool Acelerator, etc. The conference should invite politicians who are actually at power and announcing real decisions (like they did with Bukele as president announcing bitcoin as legal tender). They must also focus on devs and adoption.
i.e. it would be a very good presentation to invite MicroStrategy and make a report of the outcomes of their workshop recently organized with other companies inviting them to work with lightning network.
Another important thing is to attract AAA game developers and Microsoft/Sony/Valve to allow bitcoin on their platforms.

Pledditors reaction here is perfect. That slide is so meaningless. Like it was AI generated.

I have only watched a little of today's program, but Alex Leishman from River Financial really impressed me during the panel hosted by Stephan Livera.

I'll be hanging out around open source stage tomorrow and Saturday. Also anyone wants to grab a beer in the evening? 🍺
reply
Anyone knows if it is possible to watch the other stages apart from the main stage as well?

Lol I was listening to today's panel on media censorship on the youtube live stream, and youtube just cut it off! Youtube censored the anti-censorship panel of btc 2023!

Absolutely ridiculous

Any drama yet?
reply
some ordinal back and forth between rizzo guy swann with saylor at the desk.
reply
yea but ordinals isnt really much of a drama .... by this point we have heard everything about it and nothing new can be shared LOL
reply
Some people I know are there and they say that the presentation of https://lightningsplice.com/ was mindblowing. You can do onchine/lightning transactions without closing the channel. The evolution between L1 and L2 is coming.
reply
zaplife.lol was the star of the show but today somebody found a way to spoof zaps and took the 4h count to 124B sats. good times.
reply
The Ordinals discussion is happening right now, would be curious to know from people in Miami what the audience size is for this panel.
What has been the most popular panel so far?
reply
looking forward to the clown show

The biggest bitcoin conference on the face of earth now is live 🧡🧡🧡

huge news with strike now being headquartered in El Salvador and opening up to 65 countries around the world
reply
I do not consider it "huge"...
reply
it’s hard to compare to their bitcoin law announcement in 2021, but they may be setting a precedent here for tech companies to migrate to el salvador which could seriously limit the reach of bitcoin legislation in the US.
i think i understand your position on regulations in general, but surely it’s valuable to have countries competing with each other to offer companies better and less restrictive operating terms.

Moving HQ to Es is a smart move, I do not deny that.
reply
Caitlin Long dropping some banking & bitcoin knowledge to kick off the event right now.
She just said Custodia will soon be in the Bitcoin custody business in Wyoming.
reply
the schedule looks packed with solid speakers, but i’m specifically excited for two panels.
  • Will AI Dream of Electric Bitcoin?
  • Building Lightning-Native Companies
reply
I hate panels and fireside chats... so let's see if this conference changes my opinion
reply
Is @k00b giving a talk on SN? Or is this a pure marketing-speak conference where everyone is changing the world through blah blah blah?
reply
Nah SN has never really gotten past the velvet rope. I didn't even attend this year.
I'm sure the Open Source stage is legit though if Odell ran it again this year.

Brink is making an announcement today at 4:40, any guesses on what they might reveal?
