It's all a shitshow...
You don't go and say that Damus is a censorship resistant NOSTR client when you go and "talk" with Apple crying to restore your app on their app store.
That is not anymore "censorship resistant".
If you really have balls, you will show them the midle finger and tell to all your users to dump the ishit devices.
That will be something to admire not begging Apple to restore the app and remove the features they want them to remove.

Totally agree with you. Even Dorsey, Mallers etc., using iPhones. It's like they don't understand what this fight is all about. And I hate to say that about legends like them, and maybe I'm an extreme tin foil hatter, but any central choke point the GAE can go for to go after Bitcoin they will go for. We have some time but not much. So start using the tools now, ffs. Yes it's a bit of a LARP now, but pretty soon it's going to get real and anything we can do now to get prepared has to be worth it. E2e encryption, self sovereign Bitcoin wallets, etc., None of these are going to be in the Apple or Google play store in 10 years time. You will be arrested at the airport if you're found with these on your phone. The worst dystopia you can imagine is coming. The GAE is bankrupt and needs to extract eye popping tribute from citizens and conquered nations to keep the racket going. 100s of military bases around the world that need paying for. People not only in the US but around the world must be in dollars in order for the inflationary tax to be effective and not cause hyper inflation. The military shrinking or not being paid is not an option. Senators and Congressmen not being paid is not an option. The only option is the world being forced to slave in the petrodollar system and anyone who thinks Apple is going to stand up against that has no idea of the scale of the problem. Yes, you can say "well you LARPers with you Pixels are hardly going to be able to stand up and fight" but I reject that defeatist framing. I'm going to give it a go just out of spite. If enough of us make it difficult for them then at least we can make the lives of our enemies a little less easy. Better than nothing.

Apple can censor Apple apps.
But even as an Iphone user the risk of being censored is quite small.
You can walk to the shop and buy an Android phone every time you want.
The apple situations sucks. But it is still infinitely better than using twitter. Not only could apple censor twitter. You might be censored by twitter as well and there is no way to recover from that.

Thing is, we have no idea how this will evolve.
Maybe a zap-less Damus will exist for a while, getting more users along the way. And later somehow zaps are restored and get exposed to many more users. Or people learn about Nostr through Damus and move to something else to be able to zap.
(This has happened in the past: Bitcoin apps were banned and then allowed again.)
Nostr is by far the most effective tool to orange pill the normies. It's important to grab as much mindshare as possible.

This is similar to the KYC argument.
Do we accept that our government hates Bitcoin and let them prevent normies from using Bitcoin or do we fight for every inch?
We will fight

It's sad for Damus.
But implicitly trusting a centralized permissioned app store to distribute your permission-less client was never going to work.
The argument that to make something a success for normies, we need to comply is a losing strategy in the long term.
Apple has convinced users that the only way to securely install apps is through their vetted app store.
Big mistake.
If your OS does not let you choose to install and verify a package yourself directly from the developers, use only web apps, or stay a digital serf.
Some of us who already started the journey of digital Independence in accordance with the permission-less nature of bitcoin and nostr have to step-up and help.

sure, go ahead and have nice little arguments with Apple's centralized app store moderators.
And while you are at it, do the same with the state, all for the benefit of the plebs and their "rights".
in the meantime, I'll take care of my own and increase the 1% a little bit every day.

That's the beauty of open source software and open standards. Someone else will implement on a better platform.
Apple is a very innovative company (although I've personally never used their stuff), but eventually their luck will run out, they will lose market share and the power necessary to enforce such capricious and arbitrary rules.

So? Dump the fucking iShit and use a DECENT FOSS OS that do not restrict you what to use.

Going to Apple and cry to restore your app, promising to respect their rules, is not the option.
This is not "censorship resistant" anymore.

Personally, I dumped all the iShit. Fuck Apple.
But I still want normies to have access to censorship resistant tools as much as possible.
"Use a DECENT FOSS OS" will not spur any meaningful adoption of anything.

Nostr is a way of learning to be sovereign. I have seen people "see the light" when they discovered zaps.
There are good people out there. Many are stupid but many are not.
reply

You can't be sovereign when you ask for permission to distribute your app through a permissioned store... you must comply their rules. Complying rules and saying that is a censorship resistant it doesn't make sense.

Damus can either stay or leave.
Staying keeps the censorship-resistant communication aspect, which is useful to a lot of people TO UNDERSTAND SOVEREIGNTY AND HELP THEM SEE THAT APPLE IS SHIT.
Leaving, as you suggest, is the dumbest move because it will prevent people from learning.
Your pride clouds your thoughts.

Apple can censor webapps on iOS as easily as they censor native apps
Just have the operating system detect what webapp you are using and display an error if it's on a blacklist

Technical matters aside I think that a DNS or a content filtering blacklist is quite harder to apply because touch an environment, the web, that is globally perceived as "open", so it would raise a lot of censorship concerns.
