The European Parliament approved new rules mandating that by 2027 all new devices such as smartphones, tablets, and cameras have batteries that are easily removable and replaceable by consumers.
While I think it sucks that we need legislation for something like this, I am also excited by the idea that I may one day have the ability to replace my phone battery again, like it’s 2005.
But I’m curious to know what other, more libertarian leaning Bitcoiners feel about this.
If people wanted replicable batteries they would buy them when they were still popular. apparently people prefer waterproof cheaper and more robust option hence the non removable is now the std. and you still can replace the battery in the lab.

This is the kind of government intervention I can support.
But I'm far from being libertarian ;)

If consumers actually wanted phones with removable batteries, a market would naturally emerge for them. Apparently they do not, because removable batteries were quite common in the early days of smartphones but dropped away in favour of self-contained designs. I had a smartphone with a replaceable battery myself; it was hot dogshit.
Besides, this leglislation seems self-defeating if it's being done in the name of environmental friendliness. Phones with removable cases are more fragile and less waterproof. Perhaps you'd also see an influx of cheaper and weaker batteries if they can be swapped around on a whim. My impression of this bill is that it will result in more e-waste as the market is flooded with lower quality products.

i believe phones with removable batteries have a second smaller battery that ensures the phone dont lose track of time and basic settings when the larger battery is removed. so perhaps going to get more complex devices, which increases cost and carbon footprint to manufacture wink wink nudge nudge...... but its not that big of a deal
video of phone with "removable battery" :)

It's annoying when anyone tells you how to run your business or design your product. Smart people will eventually find other places to work and the industry and consumer will be worse off in the end.
