I have been listening to Balaji's epic episode on Marty Bent's TFTC podcast over the past two days. I almost made a link post, but I had to talk about it a little. Before I go any further, here is the link on Fountain: https://fountain.fm/episode/4Lc2f0RvADmnHbtfIBiK
(yes, I posted the link twice)
I rave about podcast episodes a lot, but this episode is different. I had never known much about Balaji before his recent wacky bitcoin bet, but this monologue is truly extraordinary. The guy now has all my respect. I also have to credit Marty. For those who listen to his podcast, you know he's not shy, but he had enough sense to let his guest run with minimal interruption. Boy, can Balaji talk! The episode clocks in at more than 4 hours, which is why it took me so long to get around to listening to it. I'm sure many of you on here have already heard it. I also know Balaji has been making the rounds and talking to everyone. Still, this is special. It really is a history of the world over the last 25 years. He makes connections where I had never seen them before. I learned a lot about the changing role of the U.S. internationally, internal U.S. politics, and yes, bitcoin too.
If you have the time, you should listen to it.
Arguably the best rip of the year

I would never deter anyone from listening to what Balaji has to say but let's not forget that Balaji is the reason shitcoins and earn scams on coinbase became normalized. Let's also remember he was angling for a big government job in one of the healthcare agencies under Trump. His book is pretty much a "web 3" proponent's wet dream and the first person he had on his podcast was Vitalik, He is like 70 percent bitcoin maxi and 30% fiat maxi and shitcoiner.
That being said I pretty much listen to all his epic interviews and agree with a lot he has to say.

As I said, Ruby, I never heard of the guy before the bitcoin bet. You obviously know more about him than I do. I would say the episode was less than 10% about bitcoin. He made a very intelligent presentation, but you present some good reasons why people might choose to dismiss him.
reply
I am not saying dismiss him I am just suggesting a nuanced approach to Balaji. He is a smart guy and I agree with a lot of what he says.
reply
Makes sense.

I haven't listened to it yet. I was concerned it was like all the other Balaji podcasts which tend to be hard to listen to because the host usually wants to challenge him when Balaji clearly just wants to do a monologue. But everyone keeps say 'this is the one' so I'll queue it up.
reply
I don't remember one time when Marty interrupted him. He did a masterful job of staying out of his way.
reply
Honestly it's not that hard to stay out of Balaji's way -- he'll literally talk for ten minutes uninterrupted, pushing and popping items on the stack, delivering book chapters basically verbatim. He somehow never loses track of where he is or what he's saying.
The guy's clearly a genius. The downside is that I've never heard him interviewed in a way that was actually a dialogue, vs a monologue. Stick a coin in him and he's gone, world's easiest interview.
reply
Agreed! I would prefer a dialogue but it doesn’t seem to be his vibe.
reply
Did you watch the video or just listen? I guess he has a bunch of slides too
reply
Lots of slides. Enough in my opinion to warrant watching the video instead.
reply
It’s more of the same. It’s a decent listen my main take away is he never finishes a true thought.
reply
Marty should have asked him if he us now a bitcoin maximalist ("we are all bitcoin maximalists now"), does he still hold other crypto?
If so he's not a BTC maximalist
