I frequently see long form posts which, to my untrained eye, appear to be written by AI. There's a pattern and a lack of natural language which seems to jump out frequently. It seems fairly frequent here, and increasingly frequent on nostr.
Or am I just becoming cynical?
Yes most of them are from lazy shitcoiners that only use AI to post for assmilking sats on SN. FUCK AI. As I explained in this post #171338 Also some of them are just copy pasting from other articles without mentioning the source

If the AI machines were not being subsidised they would cost more than human generated ones.
It's not sustainable long term. Even cantillionaires got no resources to spend on this once full socialist pod life is inflicted on the morons who will accept it.
The AI hype is just part of the campaign to sell The Venus Project style "computational socialism".
Just like communism of its various flavours, it will rapidly devolve into breadlines and famines and too many leather boots for the gestapo.

Great article. Thank you for the link.

Yeah that bugs me too. It appears that minimal effort sat farming posts are an issue that goes well with financial incentives. Fortunately I suspect people here will rarely reward such mediocrity and the financial gain won't work out worthwhile in the long term

I completely agree - people think they can cheat their way to a popular post maybe. Wealth without work approach is a typical fiat mindset and there are always a couple on here each day from new joiners.
But I always smile when I see a ‘thank you ChatAI’ reply comment.

They had to prompt the AI to create something.
There is nothing bad to AI. Saying AI is shit and fuck it is like saying fire or language is shit fuck it. AI is just a technology. It can be used for good things and bad things.
Now you will miss the human factor. Like the sudden changes that maybe only humans can do now. Like this one. Do you remember when your mom or dad used to read in bed to you those great bed time stories?
AI can’t play with language like that.
But if I have something to do like translating 300 formulas in excel to a word document where I have to use 300 variables I could pay a virtual assistant 500 dollars to do it in 5 days or do it myself or ask AI to do it in 10 seconds.
So I don’t say fuck AI. Because it helps me.
Now if there are people on SN who just prompts AI to create a great story and they just publish 100 stories a day without thinking, I understand people will get annoyed. They see no human value.
They see no human effort to create sonething unique.
I think that is what you are seeing.
But you can’t stop it.
If there is fire, people are going to experiment and use it. If there is language people are going to use it. And if there is AI people are going to use it.
Now to the people hating AI, if your daughter, son or wife had cancer, or a bad disease. But on one hand you had an AI that could find the cure. By running through millions of data and finding a match to cure it. Or if you had this disease yourself.
And on the other hand you didn’t have AI.
Would you say fuck AI, let me die?
I wouldn’t. Would you?
reply
I didn't say it was shit. Everything you wrote after that I didn't read because I'm not interested in being ranted at.
reply
I thought it could be. But it would be sad if someone really did spend many hours writing a long form article only to be called an AI cheat
reply
Yeah, I'd try not to do that, I'm not out to make people feel bad ,😆

It's also not uncommon for them, or their RA, to have literally copied entire sections from the previous work. I have a lead author who does that all the time.

Yeah I'm being replaced by ChatGPT at my editor role as we speak. Feels bad man.

As a newcomer, I'm unable to identify such posts, also not a chatGPT hardcore user. (at least not at the point to identify such posts). But if the topic/reply brought by such user is interesting why not give a chance?
A little off-topic: I used in the past chatGPT to make a review and translation on my texts, but it turned out it was faster for me to use Google Translate...

Web of trust[0] become more relevant every day.

Not sure how you could apply WoT to posting on SN

SN uses a model based on WoT to determine what is good content and thus the ranking on the front page. It's not only based on amount of zaps but also on the trust of the users who zap. See https://stacker.news/faq#do-zaps-help-content-rank-higher
But @k00b can probably explain it better
We will create a SN dev blog post about this sooner than later since this is probably the least understood but still very important feature of SN
reply
I was pointing to this, some kind of WoT for the community, nice to see SN use the concept.
reply
If the content is good, then it's fine.
No one cares about people using spell check, so I see chatGPT et al as a spell checker on steroids.
reply
Well spell checking is simply making sure you haven't made any errors. It's not doing the whole job for you.
reply
If you have an interesting idea, but let's say English is not your first language, or you simply don't know how to write well, then chatGPT can be used basically as a tool to express your interesting idea more clearly.
That's similar to how if you only have poor grammar, a spell checker makes your idea easier to understand to others. It's fundamentally the same idea.
You still need to input chatGPT with something you want to express, and that's what makes the text interesting, the initial idea you want to express, not how it is written, that only makes it easier to understand.

I've used it, bard too, as I was interested in them. They have their uses. Using them to write a post for a forum where you can grab for a few sats is a cheap way of bitcoin harvesting however.
I'd rather read broken English with bad grammar written by someone with a loose grasp of the language than some crap spewed out by a probability machine.
reply
Can you cite an example?
reply
Not if this post is also AI. ;)
reply
HAHAHAHA! GOOD ONE, FELLOW HUMAN. AS A NORMAL HUMAN MADE OF MEAT, I ALSO APPRECIATE HUMOR. END TRANSMISSION.
reply
Well... I don't have an example 'cuz I don't know what posts were done by chatGPT...
But I guess if we ask chatGPT, certainly will come up with a bunch of topics...
reply
NBD, I was just curious because I haven't given it much thought before. I was trying to ask the OP. I wouldn't even know what to look for when trying to spot a GPT article, so I was curious what the OP's red flags were.
