We started the discussion on the SN feature bounty: chatGPT summaries
Seems that some people do not understand my position in regards of this aspect. So I will explain it here in more detail.
Background As you may know, I survived 20 years of pure communist tyranny. All my youth and life I fight against evil forces and stood my ground against anything that threat my liberty and humanity. My life was driven by simple things: integrity and truth. I am an old man, that is trying to raise a warning to all young generation. An old man studying and using Bitcoin from 2012 and helping many people to get onboard.
I came to SN in the early days of it (#166). Why? Because I saw the potential that SN could have. And I was right. I wanted to have a place where I can interact with bitcoiners, freedom fighters, not with dumb bots.
As I proposed many times here:
  • make a dedicated section / sub for link news. Those who just want to spam with boring links and do not create any value or content, just want to hunt few sats posting links, so be it, they can do it in that section.
  • make a dedicated section for real discussions, guides, REAL good content, where new users could LEARN something new about Bitcoin.
I do not want to scroll an infinite list of boring links, repeated sometimes, without any value, until I could find something interesting to discuss or read. Every second in our life is important, so why waste it with meaningless and spam?
By introducing chatGPT to make the summary, you are creating even more laziness, idiocy, larping and crap posts. Why? Because that today are just dropping shity links articles, will do it even more, tjhinking that will get some more meaningless sats from others.
I am not here to earn sats. I am here to educate myself with good content from others and educate others with good content from me. Sats are a form to show appreciation of the content, instead of meaningless votes.

RESISTANCE is one of the words that describe the Bitcoin movement.

Why? Because Bitcoin is the resistance against tyranny, against slavery, against idiocy. Bitcoin teach us how to be brave, how to be smart, how to be creative / innovative using our brains, how to be efficient, how to be good, how to create value, how to be respected.

chatGPT / AI is pure SLAVERY

You may not know it, you may not realize it, but is the ultimate nail in your own coffin, prepared by the evil lords that want to control the humanity.
THIS IS NOT A JOKE or conspiracy, is a fact.
Due to my background, living in communism, it is more easy for me to see these aspects. You lived your entire life in a nice, warm, so called capitalist society, but in fact you were prepared, trained to be more obedient and do not detect the threat.
The AI introduced into your life, in a way that you can slowly accept it, first as a joke, later as an "utility", then final is when you cannot get rid of it, will be too late.
** THEY ARE BOILING YOU SLOWLY, without noticing it.**
Many will say: "nah, is just a meaningless software bot adding text". etc etc etc. You are wrong. Slowly you will not realize what is real from fiction and will be too late. Your brain will not be anymore reacting to that and will just follow what the AI will tell you, like a brainless robot.
Are machines necessary in our life? YES. But for hard work, where humans could not compete with dangerous environment.

But machines ARE NOT necessary in our process of creation, of innovation, of communication, of education.

You still do not want to see but this AI introduced slowly into your life is the PURE COMMUNISM that is coming. Do not let it come, reject it in any form. RESIST and follow the truth, the human creativity, the human interaction, the human communication.

THINK ABOUT YOUR KIDS AND GRANDKIDS. think about their future.

Do you want them to be raised by an AI? So will never know how is the human touch, human communication, human feelings? Because continuing to accept this AI in our daily life, it is going there: DEHUMANIZING, the ultimate goal of the overlords, so they can control you once and for all.
THIS was my final warning to all of you guys, in special to you @k00b. I know that deep inside you, you are still human, your soul is still not corrupted.
This is not about me leaving SN if chatGPT is integrated. I would leave SN because I RESIST, I do not want to give any chance to AI to control me.
This is about YOU, is a warning for YOU the bitcoiner out there, that fight for freedom and humanity.
Darth, thank You so much for Your detailed opinion on a matter that's for me as independent journalist, libertarian and entrepreneur clearly a threat to my personal freedom. The fan boys will have to learn their lesson. Greets from Spain....
reply
Talking about revolutions. Bitcoin is the revolution, but it's still only a tool (sound money). AI is the first human revolution which is not a tool. And it will speed-up behavioral sinking process amongst people, that's obvious. Greets from Poland (communist tyranny long time ago)
P.S. the lesson to learn, one more time: "You lived your entire life in a nice, warm, so called capitalist society, but in fact you were prepared, trained to be more obedient and do not detect the threat."
reply
Hi, besides the economical consequences and the impact on political power structures I see a dangerous impact on our cultural and aesthetical reception. Imagina a generation that won't have to train itself by reading understanding and interpreting art, poems or music. In my opinion it's the core of being human... AI seems to be weaponized to attack these crucial elements of individualism
reply
Imagine the revolution so strong and so fast - that people are not able to adapt to it, in reasonable time. And when they have nothing reasonable to do - there is non-zero risk they will go the same route of Calhoun's experiment/dystopia.
reply
"detailed opinion"
the detailed opinion: "communism" "communism" "communism"
reply
Yes because this is obviously the main point in a text block of almost 400 words where communism is referenced exactly 3 times. (yes, I counted)
Did you actually read it at all?
reply
true, i forgot the "SLAVERY SLAVERY SLAVERY" part
reply
Thanks for writing this up, @DarthCoin. I think a lot of us here were aware of your distaste for ChatGPT, but didn't understand why (at least I didn't). Now I know where you're coming from.
I agree with having a subsection for guides and tutorials. I have one of your LN guides bookmarked, but it'd be nice if we had a dedicated section for these things, too.
I also don't think we need an auto summary of linked stories. As I mentioned in that same bounty post, a text box would do nicely. I personally want people to read the stories I share, but would like to add context to why I'm sharing it. We don't need to add AI for the sake of adding AI.
On the other hand, the tldr bot has been created and used here. As it stands now, I think this is fairly benign (though I'm sure you disagree) as one can choose to use it or not.
reply
We don't need to add AI for the sake of adding AI.
Well said.

As an aside, this is probably a good topic for your substack if you haven't covered it already.

I guess I was thinking something more specific to AI and ChatGPT and why you think these are antithetical to personal sovereignty and Bitcoin. Something like what you've written here but a bit more fleshed out and obviously not SN related.
reply
I appreciate your passion and concern for humanity, and I agree that it's essential to prioritize human connections, communication, and creativity. It's crucial to strike a balance between embracing technological advancements and preserving the human qualities that define us.
AI, like any other technology, can be a double-edged sword. The key lies in using AI responsibly and ethically, ensuring it serves as a tool to enhance our lives rather than replace human interaction. By setting boundaries and guidelines, we can prevent the over-reliance on AI and preserve the essence of human experiences.
As a community, we should stay vigilant and be mindful of the potential consequences of AI integration in our daily lives. While I understand your concerns, I believe we can continue to use AI responsibly, fostering meaningful human interactions and promoting creativity. It's important to remain cautious and critical but also to appreciate the potential benefits AI can bring when used thoughtfully and ethically.
reply
Thanks for giving us ChatGPT's opinion on @DarthCoin's post, but is that also your opinion? 😏
reply
Haha, I can see how my previous response might have seemed a bit ChatGPT-ish. To be clear, those thoughts are genuinely mine. I agree with the importance of human connection and creativity, and I also believe that we can use AI responsibly, without letting it control or dehumanize us. It's all about finding the right balance and using technology to enhance our lives, not replace the human aspects. So, yes, that's my opinion, and I appreciate the discussion! 😄
reply
ai detection tools are unreliable.
reply
At best. The machine's whole schtick is to sound human.
reply
Darth, I always think you overreact a bit, but I have to be on you with this one. +1000 sats on having a "links" tab or let people write a summary. If I post a link I usually do it using markdown and do a small write up.
Taking it slow is almost always better (bitcoin has been veeery slow) and I don't think there's a rush (there might be, but who knows) to implement AI/chatgpt/LLM everywhere, especially here.
Yes, in some sense AI can be like the internet or electricity. It's been already everywhere for some time.
But in other sense these technologies can be like TikTok/snapchat (dead, btw), senseless social media, 24/7 p8rn, onlyFans, etc. Just because everyone around you takes stupid tik toks when they are sad / looking at the Rosetta stone (through their smartphone selfie cam) / seeing their idol perform live (albeit through their tiny screens), it doesn't mean they're better off. In fact research and common sense proves that young ones who are exposed to social media are in fact doing a lot worse, anxiety is off the roof.
The big issue with ChatGPT is that it learns to talk like us, like me, like Darth. We can make arguments sound very convincing, but deep down we still share the quality of being human, not gods. Once you trust an AI for everything it becomes a slippery slope, and a very tempting one. I don't trust Darth for everything, no one should trust me for everything. This is what makes us humans.
Our team at the fiat mine is now using ChatGPT to ask important questions and it's a disaster.
reply
Thank you so much for posting this.
The more I think about this, the more I find AI evil and distasteful. I know it is not going away, but I don't want it in my life.
I would like to hear though, what is it that some find so enticing about AI?
reply
In the 19th century they started the Eugenics movement.
Then it started with the Trans-human movement and this AI introduced slowly now, is just the final step.
I encourage everyone to read this book Manna (is actually a warning) https://marshallbrain.com/manna
reply
Yeah, but I see you using the web, sharing links, etc.
All of that makes you more efficient, instead of sending a letter to each person individually, etc.
Say for example you didn't remember the name of that book, you would have had to search for it in the web. You could get that result faster with AI now.
I can see how this new tool can be used for bad things, but at the end of the day, you are making a line in the sand at a certain point that works for you, while using other tools happily.
reply
I would like to hear though, what is it that some find so enticing about AI?
Reduce the time to get to an answer you're looking for.
Instead of searching the web for minutes/hours you can get an answer almost immediately.
I see it as the difference between having to go to the library and get different books (before the first internet search engines became popular, say before 2000), compared to searching for it on the web.
After 20 or so years of web searches, this is basically the next iteration.
reply
I would like to hear though, what is it that some find so enticing about AI?
Just one example:
Showing it a piece of code and asking where the error is
And it shows you the error
Basically your personal Stack Overflow 24/7
reply
Making effective use of chatgpt is very similar to making effective use of SO. The key to both is using them for your own personal parallel reconstruction.
Pasting a chatgpt response and saying “here’s what chatgpt says about X” is even lazier than linking to SO without providing context. It demonstrates laziness, and more importantly a lack of understanding of the topic.
Using either/both as tools to accelerate your knowledge on a topic, to the point you can confidently explain it in your own words, is simply making good use of the tooling available to us.
reply
You give up being creative and correct yourself or with other human help, into complacency and convenience of using AI. That could not be considered built by you, the human, the developer, the coder. You are not a coder anymore, you are just a copy/pasta.
What if someday that AI is giving you deliberately a wrong answer ? And you take it as good... And that code will do harm later.
reply
Tell me you are not a coder without telling me you are not a coder, haha
reply
I see you added something to your meme:
That could not be considered built by you, the human, the developer, the coder. You are not a coder anymore, you are just a copy/pasta.
I didn't copy anything in that example. It just said "this could be the error" without giving me any code.
Then I fixed it myself.
What if someday that AI is giving you deliberately a wrong answer ? And you take it as good... And that code will do harm later.
In the context of code, it could deliberately give me a wrong answer, yes. But then I will notice because the code is not doing what I want.
To strengthen your point: Yes, it could include hidden bugs which I don't notice
Like one university once created malicious PRs into the Linux Kernel to test if the bugs will be spotted.
But so far, I only asked it about stuff which was very easy to verify since I then could look up that this is indeed the case how most people do stuff like this in this language which is new to me.
I see your point though, kind of forgot how easy it could just hide subtle bugs on purpose.
reply
I've found AI to be really helpful for generating boilerplate code or converting from one language to another. It's hit-or-miss for anything more complex than that.
You'd have to be a really bad developer to take what chatgpt spits out and just paste it into your IDE.. considering it probably won't even work straight away (this is the same for any info you pull off stackoverflow).
For AI to deliberately put malicious code in, it would have to be writing really complex stuff and not just code snippets, which as far as I can tell, it can't do.
reply
But then I will notice because the code is not doing what I want.
If you are asking in the first place the AI to fix your code, you will not be able to detect the deliberate error, you will just take it as good. Or you will not care anymore.
reply
You can always use it for writing code in new languages that you've never used before or that you are new.
Think of it as a spellchecker on steroids.
You still need to create the content, or at least the seed for the content, and then edit it to fit your goals.
And the beauty of code is that it's basically logic, so you can always run tests to ensure the code does exactly what it is supposed to do, and nothing else.
reply
I don't worry about the AI thanks to having recently learned how the underlying mathematics works, it is related to data compression, prime number factors, similar stuff also used in encryption, signatures and error correction.
It analyses a big chunk of data, and breaks it down into its recurring parts and the patterns of recurring parts and recurring patterns, creating a dictionary, and then based on the sequences of the symbols and symbol patterns in the input data, it adds numbers to each symbol representing its ways of leading to another symbol.
The prompt is analysed, and it is converted into a set of parameters that pick out which of the plurality of options the paths allow for each next step in the document.
I'm not in favour of putting weapons in the hands of psychopaths but psychopaths have a way of getting them anyway. Sure there are patterns in the data that become visible with enough surveillance feeding the model, but idiot tyrants don't know how to ask the really good questions that impinge on their glorious self image and us plebs will have our own AI anyway.
I can understand not wanting to have the closed source, centralised and highly filtered language model raping our data here in front of us but open source and less filtered language models, and our own AIs are not their spying machines, I don't see why this should be a problem.
The genie isn't going to go back in the bottle. The text transformation technology will lead to great improvements in efficiency of many activities, today I was learning a little bit of mathematics and algorithms using it to write some code for me for an algorithm that I still haven't quite grasped (modular inverse). We need it to be open source models, but we should not deny ourselves the option of using this, or any other technology that has the ability to be used to violate the rights of others.
Only thing that stops bad guys with guns, is good guys with guns.
reply
I don't see why this should be a problem.
People will use less and less their brain and knowledge will be passed to the AI. Your brain will not function as it should be, laziness will be a norm and AI words will be law. I reject to live such a dystopia.
reply
I don't think people will use their brain less because of AI, they just will not use their brain so often to do the exact same thing as someone else did already and encoded into a model.
The lower cost of producing what you will agree is inherently derivative, low information content variations on a theme will get even lower, and the increased supply will lead to a craving for novelty that will put the lions share of market payments for creative and technical work into the hands of the most creative, and the uncreative ones will go back to mowing lawns and laying bricks.
AI's primary impact on society will be the acceleration of the accretion of new knowledge, as researches will be able to move faster from a hunch to a new theory. It will have impact on software too. Where before it took 20 javascript ninjas to build an Amazon, it will now take like 2 especially creative javascript ninjas to build an Amazon.
AI is a compression algorithm. It is a means by which we can evaluate text more rapidly and confidently make judgements based on this as it relates to consensus knowledge.
We will see it used to rebel just as much as to oppress.
Many people are lazy, lack curiosity, and even are afraid of novelty because of luddist thinking, which you are demonstrating here by trying to say that AI is going to be net worse.
Unfortunately, like guns and nuclear weapons, pandora's box opening is a one way, trapdoor function. To dwell on the negative impacts of a technology without recognising that there's no making it disappear back into history again until it's proven useless, is a pointless exercise.
reply
I tend to agree. I'd also like to add that using GPT takes skill. It often gives you inaccurate responses, but you can verify them for yourself, and the added value here comes from the possible solutions to verify (kind of like the P vs NP problem: it's easier to verify a solution than to find one). People too often assume it's the same as asking a human expert; they expect answers to be server to them on a silver platter. But that's not how it works. Those who understand how those models work will gain a competitive edge; a new profession will emerge. It's already happening.
reply
You have to embrace AI and use it to your advantage or you will be left behind. This is only the beginning. You got the bitcoin revolution right but you are not understanding the new revolution yet. It is not something any individual can stop. Don't stress too much about GPT. It's nothing and helpful. It is going to be worse when AGI gets conscience and we humans realize we are not the most intelligent species on the planet anymore. 😅

reply
Spend your sats wisely. SN tip: tipping more sats on a post/comment on SN will not make it more "visible". 1 sat vote = 100 sats vote = 1000 sats vote The position on top posts is not directly epresented by how many sats was tipped, but by how many users upvote it. The amount of sats represent only your personal reward for that post or comment.
My intention with this post wasn't to grab people's sats. Not at all. Actually next days I will make some posts with some bounties to give back these sats or I will tip those that really contribute with good content. I like to see proof of work in place.
reply
Your first sentence carries a lot of weight but have to really thought about what it actually means?
You have to embrace AI and use it to your advantage or you will be left behind.
First of all, who says you have to embrace AI? Did you come to that conclusion on your own or are you regurgitating something you heard from someone else?
What does using AI to your advantage actually look like? What advantage are you getting? And let's say you start using AI to achieve your goals, what are you losing in that transaction? Every time you use AI to do something for you, you're not doing it yourself. This comes at a cost. You might be getting things done faster, but you're also becoming more dependant on the AI. At some point, you won't be able to do things for yourself.
Lastly, what does it mean to be left behind? Left behind what? Behind people who don't put in the effort to do the work themselves. People who are relying on AI to exist.
I'm not saying you're wrong. I'm just saying there's a more deep discussion to be had about this.
reply
Humanity will keep discussing about this topic our entire life. It was my own conclusion.
When I mean to be left behind, I mean you won't get the same productivity as the ones who use AI, so you are behind them in terms of productivity, and companies will prefer to hire someone who is expert in AI than someone that is doing all by themselves. Companies that don't use AI will go bankrupt while the ones using the technology will thrive. It is already happening. Look how labs are folding proteins for example. A world without AI is not possible already. We need to learn how to adapt everything. As an example, I've read today that there are lawmakers proposing banning AI to be able to launch nuclear weapons by itself.
reply
I actually agree with many of the points you've made. A world without AI is not possible. I just disagree with the premise that we need to integrate it into everything without another thought.
For the record, I'm not against AI. I already use it in my day to day life and my job. But I don't buy the idea that we must embrace it or else we fail. I don't think it works like that.

I agree on two points:
  • ChatGPT is not something we can trust because it is not open source and already censors a lot.
  • The idea of creating a summary of a link is not particularly useful, and I am skeptical in its ability to make a really good summary.
But I don't understand your position AI = COMMUNISM
"You still do not want to see but this AI introduced slowly into your life is the PURE COMMUNISM that is coming."
If we are able to train our AI transparently, and find useful use cases, why not adopt them? I have the impression that you are hostile on this subject of AI, not just text generation.
My argument is more abstract and philosophical than concrete on this issue of link summary. In the future, we and the next generation will use much more AI than we can potentially imagine, whether we like it or not. We might as well make sure that today we give AI a good "environment" to develop and find its place, and this if possible thanks to the Bitcoin community that I think is sincerely intelligent and well-intentioned.
reply
But I don't understand your position AI = COMMUNISM
You do not understand because you never lived in real communism and you were trained to embrace it for decades.. Watch and think again.
If we are able to train our AI transparently
Training AI means you are training your enemy, you are digging your own grave, no matter how "open source" or not.
reply
I will go watch this video thanks. And FYI I'm a French expatriate who works in Luxembourg, the socialist-communist toxic hive mind is strong in France, I know what it is 😅
reply
ChatGPT is not something we can trust because it is not open source and already censors a lot.
There are a few open source alternatives that are getting better, so this is just a matter of time.
The idea of creating a summary of a link is not particularly useful, and I am skeptical in its ability to make a really good summary.
I do believe it's useful because attention is very scarce. If you get a summary of a long text you may decide to read it completely based on the summary. Otherwise you would just see it as a block of text, and you would have no idea if it's worth the effort.
You simply don't have enough attention to read everything in the original format.
reply
I am not against the idea of the summary in itself, yes it is a good idea, even if it's a bit gimmicky. I just doubt ChatGPT is able at doing it well enough

I strongly stand with Darth on this one.
AI is dumb and dangerous.
And Worldcoin, closely linked to ChatGTP. is literally the evilest project out there.
reply
Not all AI is ChatGPT
reply
Yeah, but the prompt specifically says ChatGTP --> #170758
reply
Simply ridiculous.
AI is a major evolution and, like any technology, is neither bad or good — it's neutral.
The only think that matters in any technology is the way you use it. There will always be pitfalls and benefits. Like the Internet, the most liberating and empowering technology ever created: it allows free and wide access to universal knowledge — but it also allows sex predators to find their victims and terrorists to plot deadly attacks.
It's always a question of benefits/risks ratio, and when a technology succeeds and spreads, it's because this ratio is globally positive.
We need AI, for plenty of reasons, and it's obviously a technology that will bring much more benefits than problems.
In all that, ChatGPT is only a tool, and an amazing one. It's powerful and useful, including for a website like SN.
reply
Darth I see your points and agree with many.
BUT. It is important not to conflate ChatGPT/OpenAI with other open source machine learning projects that not only could be completely self-sovereign but actually a weapon to fight back.
It's like saying you dislike this new "gunpowder" thing because now any idiot can effortlessly kill from a distance. Guess what? Keep your sword, and the "evil lords" will use gunpowder and wipe you out real fast.
We are not going to stop AI by complaining or hiding in a corner. Let's learn how to use their tools against them.
reply
This is precisely what I am not liking about AI. That it puts me in a position of having to choose between dominating or being dominated. AI is offensive in nature, as opposed to Bitcoin, which is defensive in nature. It's like having to build my own atomic bomb just because everyone else has one.
I know it cannot be stopped, but how can we survive and thrive in this environment without corrupting ourselves?
The whole thesis of the Sovereign Individual is based on the idea that during nation states' rise, offensive force was superior to defensive force, whereas during the Sovereign Individual's rise, defensive systems are superior to offensive ones. Is it wrong?
reply
I wish I knew the answer to your question.
Maybe bitcoin has the potenial to limit AI's destructiveness. What other defensive systems besides bitcoin you think will arise in a self-sovereign era?

To understand how AI is controlled, especially on the subjects that matter, ask it to summarise any article that deviates from the official political line: Covid, Bill c-11, Trump, etc
If it is acceptable there, where does it stop?
reply
What we need, is an ai that is not captured by the State
reply
I dont mind AI, this is after benefiting from it for a while. Its an enhancement tbh. But maybe it should work like on reddit? There is this bot called Coinfeedsbot and if the summaries of the links are useful people tend to upvote it, and if not the comment gets not upvoted. So this way the AI content only becomes truly visible if users found it helpful

But do you think there's a realistic way to prevent AI from taking over? If it keeps advancing at the recent rate, It won't be long before people start seeing as a deity, and soon after it may effectively act as one.
I think this is co-related with other policies that are being pursued such as privacy lacking 15 minute cities.
If the AI collects all data, it knows everything, how can it be stopped?

But then again, government controls and all forms of surveillance are put in place with the excuse of being "convenient" and for your safety. I am very weary of chatgpt: where google gives you suggested links, chatgpt actually attempts to convince you. And more and more people around me are relying on it for questions they should be able to answer themselves. I can see this is a slippery slope.

I agree with Darth on this one but my reasons are a bit different.
ChatGPT and AI is a tool. All tools are used for both good and evil. I don't think all uses of AI are inherently evil but I do think AI will be used to control us by those that want control. The future that Darth describes is entirely possible, you only have to study a bit of history to understand this.
When that bleak future comes, places that aren't touched by AI will have tremendous value. There will be people that want to escape the bullshit. And rest assured, AI will be used to create a lot of bullshit. Truth will be hard to come by, but that will make finding the truth even more important.
Integrating ChatGPT into SN is a choice. All choices come at a cost. Seeing the benefits is easy but the costs are more subtle. The costs may be hidden, only to reveal themselves once it's too late.

Tyrannical communist regimes happen because dumb people "choose" for the others.
What I am trying to say here is to raise a big warning, for people, to start thinking hard and realize the dangers that could come. Leave away the convenience and "it's a tool that could help" and think about the consequences of today's convenience.
Same the people choose communism because of convenience and stop fighting. And then was too late, their families were killed.

By introducing chatGPT to make the summary, you are creating even more laziness, idiocy, larping and crap posts. Why? Because that today are just dropping shity links articles, will do it even more, tjhinking that will get some more meaningless sats from others.

The author, an individual who experienced communism, believes that the introduction of AI summarizing technology, chatGPT, is harmful to humanity. They believe that it creates laziness, idiocy, and encourages spam. They suggest creating dedicated sections for link news and real discussions, as they do not want to scroll through an infinite list of boring links. The author believes that introducing chatGPT leads to dehumanization, as it will result in people following AI like brainless robots. They urge individuals to resist the introduction of such technology, continue to fight for freedom and humanity, and think about the future of their children and grandchildren.
autonote from dev: the input text for this summary had to be modified for ChatGPT to summarize it.

@DarthCoin, I think you mentioned this several times that you want to see original content and not all these links.
Are you aware that you can use https://stacker.news/~bitcoin/recent/discussions to only see discussions, at least in the "recent" tab?
At least for me, these filters are easily overlooked.

So far I'm pretty sure I can tell when someone uses AI to generate an article. I don't bother reading & I see a lot of spam like this on SN
I think AI could be a good tool to use for learning. For example you feed it all resources about the lightning network, white paper, lopps guides, your guides etc & then interact with it by asking questions & asking it to dumb it down or explain in another way.
Have not had time to play around with this, but I like the idea. I'd prefer to wait for an open source AI that I don't need to dox my phone number etc

AI being censored is really dangerous, when people agree with censoring it is already late.

I don’t see any substantiation for why you think AI is slavery. Slavery is a pretty strong work. I’m not hyped on AI by any means, but… in what way do you think AI will make us involuntarily subordinate?
It’s a glorified calculator, except it’s worse because it’s BSing based on what will result in positive feedback.
reply
Slavery is a pretty strong work
You are triggered by that word? Why ? Because you are under emotional mind control. The truth is that you are a slave, with your own consent. You still have chance to un-slave you (after you watch those 2 video links), once you realize the lie you were living all your life.
And by consenting the AI in all your aspects of your life, will make it even impossible to get out of that slavery cage that you put yourself into.
in what way do you think AI will make us involuntarily subordinate?
You are giving up your capacity of thinking for yourself, and by that you are de-humanizing yourself, towards a full transhumanism, into brainless obedient working slave.
What you see today as "innocent", harmless text generated by AI is just the beginning of your own incarceration. Is the playground, preparing your brain into full acceptance. The target is not you the today's adult, but your children. your granchildren. You are meaningless to the overlords because you will not have a full bainwashing procedure like your kids. By modeling your brain, they know that you will influence your kids into even more acceptance and will make even easier to control them.
The ultimate goal is TOTAL OBEDIENCE and even idolatrization of AI. Total de-humanizing.
They try it for many decades almost centuries, with communist regimes all over the world. And didn't worked well. Why? Because they didn't had the technology of today, like this idiotic chatGPT, they didn't had twitter and FBIbook and tik-tok. Now is much much easier to implement a full communist world, with full obedient sheeps.
THIS IS A FINAL WARNING FOR HUMANITY.
reply
Have you ever used a calculator? Is that thinking for you?
Voluntarily slavery is self contradictory.

The best slaves are those that do not know are enslaved.

If the AI collects all data, it knows everything, how can it be stopped?
reply
how can it be stopped?
Did you read what I just posted? RESISTANCE - what does it means this word for you? Do not use services and products that follow, use, promote AI.
reply
I understand this on the level of the individual, But I can't see how this can applied on a larger societal level.
reply
Exactly, u cannot stop progress, eventhough it is evil and dangerous.
The only way to stop it now is for it to implode on itself. The cat is out of the bag and society is doomed.
We can only save ourselves individually.
reply
What is a society? Is not a group of individuals? If the individuals have high moral ground and education, how will that impact the society?
Society is formed by each individual, not the way around. Be a sovereign individual with high morals and you will see the results of your "society".
reply
While I think I understand where you're coming from, how likely is it that this may work? How will cost-effective labor not win in a market?
I can choose not to use it, avoiding what ever agenda its creators have made ingrained in it. But the problem with AI is its evolution, I may not use chat GPT but how will I avoid a super general artificial intelligence if/when it comes?
I think the better solution here is building open source AI, with publicly available training data though the problem is compute.
reply
No, the solution is not to build another type of AI. The solution is to be HUMANS and RESIST to be de-humanized. Is not about WHO created that AI or if is open source or not. Is about that the AI inside all the aspects of humanity will consume you from inside, until you will not be anymore human.
The human race will not just get extinct because is not using today the AI, it will go extinct exactly because is starting today to accept AI in their day to day life. All these simple things that many are seeing them as "inoffensive" aspects are actually changing your brain in something meaningless and more powerful for non-human entities.
reply
I understand your sentiment, if AI goes rogue we can never go back.
however, try convincing people around the world not to develop it, it won't work.
given AI's possibility to use as a weapon, no country will ban its development, this isn't replacing CFCs to save the Ozone.
Humanity's own nature may become its end, if the AI turns out to be against us.
Even if your fear is propaganda and conditioning, I think opensource is the best way against that.
We can't stop development of a technology, someone will build it.
Good luck to the human race.
reply
try convincing people around the world not to develop it, it won't work.
Giving up is the solution then? Lamenting that you cannot do anything is exactly what they want you to do. Is the final step into full obedience.
I think opensource is the best way against that.
That's stupid. It doesn't matter if is closed source or open source. It is just against YOU the human.
If you do not want AI to control you, then just unplug yourself and be done with it. :)
AI is here to stay. Either you adapt or you die.
reply
Are you the overlords bot? Seems that they lobotomized you very quickly. You are their weapon now... and the enemy of humanity.
reply
define they?
I am not anybody's weapon. I just live in the real world. If you think the future will be different, and without AI, you are dilusional.
Do you still make fire by rubbing sticks?

In some ways it's like Bitcoin: it's software and you can't stop it. The very fact that such software is possible to create and someone finds it useful (whether it's for purposes you consider nefarious or admirable) means it's meant to be part of our reality.
Just like nuclear weapons: physics allows them and someone likes to wield that kind of power, so they exist. You can dismantle the existing ones, but the knowledge of how to make them is never going to be erased. Even if you managed to burn and cut out of people's brains the works of Einstein, Rutherford, Fermi and others who led the foundations (and throw nuclear power plants, PET imaging, radiation therapy, carbon dating, NMR etc. out with the bathwater - BTW thanks to GPT for this list!), but it wouldn't take long before we rediscovered their findings and eventually, nuclear weapons. These days probably less than a month.

If an article is too long, I'll copy-paste into ChatGPT anyway to get a TLDR, then decide if I want to read it.
Easy compromise it to fetch the ChatGPT summary, hide it from the users, and make the user pay in sats (that go to SN or the community) to unlock IF it's something they're interested in paying for.

The fact that you get triggered by the mere suggestion of slavery means that you don't like that the nature of AI is being exposed.
Yes, supporting it makes you either a slave or a slave driver, depending on whether you are being naïve or manipulative.
