As a commentary on lived experience it is excellent. I also think Homage to Catalonia is a great read - it’s a side of history rarely acknowledged which, regardless of the political background of the protagonists, was a fight against fascism by relatively ‘normal’ people.
It is a shame he is usually dismissed as a socialist but the tradition he came from was far closer to the centre than the left. And people forget 1984 was his take on the dangers of totalitarianism from both the left AND the right. I do believe everyone should look outside of their political lanes every once in a while just to see what others are saying.
I agree completely. I never heard of Homage To Catalonia. I have to check that out.
