There's a subreddit - /r/slavelabour that I will sometimes frequent to do programming tasks (mostly web scraping).
Well I just got banned for "Piracy/Hacking/Cracking".
What's the point of doing anything online anymore?
Maybe try Microlancer.io. I looked at /r/slavelabour a few years ago, but it seemed like they were hostile against crypto (can't get a Paypal account). Microlancer is KYC-free, supports Bitcoin Lightning, includes escrow and may have some similar tasks (if not, post a service and employers can contact you). There are also /r/Jobs4Bitcoins and t.me/BitcoinP2PMarketplace.

But with so many jobs already posted here, why would you go back to that reddit shithole?
reply
Good question. But I do I have an interview soon ;)
Doing those projects was good exercise. I had to practice communication with people who knew what they wanted practically but didn't know how to explain it technically. The variety of tasks gave me a breadth of knowledge. Maybe it was all leading to this moment. Maybe that ban was my graduation.

Reddit is the new Facebook.

That UI update... and the useless chat feature. At least they don't have stories... right?

They banned you for discussing web scraping? Can you describe the nature of the ban more?
reply
At the risk of doxxing myself, sure.
No, I wasn't banned for discussing it. People post tasks, others bid on them. I bid on web scraping tasks. It's like paid exercise. I only do legitimate work. This person wanted help getting some kind of media offline. Said youtube-dl wasn't working for them. No mention of piracy, etc. If they had mentioned that, I wouldn't have bid.
From my perspective, it looks like the mod didn't know the exact nature, and it sounded just fishy enough to intervene. So they banned the task OP and everyone who bid on it, just to be safe.
edit: I'm guessing which task I got banned for. They didn't say exactly. They phrased it as if all the web scraping tasks were bad.

Sorry didn't mean to pry. Just wanted to understand.
Moderation in economic contexts like that is particularly distressing.

It's fine. Thanks for listening. I'm mostly bummed because it was a good little stream of income when I needed it. It was competitive and professional. Mostly positive experiences. Now I'm lumped in with the scammers.
Well, the only way to feel power is to use it, right?

Sooo ... they have rules, you broke the rules and now you salty that it had consequences?

Collecting data your browser downloads anyway is a crime.
