We saw what happened when China did this. If the US did it I suspect those powers at odds with the US would capitalize on the opportunity.

Then you want to be somewhere where enforcement is likely to be lower.
i.e. less indebted, growing nations, with abundant resources.
In my case I’m happy with the choices on offer in Latam
