Obviously, there's some shit going down in the Middle East.
I'm too dumb to have an opinion on it, I just know that it's very sad and I don't like it.
Some of us may think we understand the whole situation and all of its complexity, many of us wisely avoid it. Stick to what you can control, don't let the bs distract you. Right?
Well, sometimes that's easier said than done. Israel/Palestine is basically impossible to avoid if you're active in the relatively similar social media sphere that many bitcoiners find themselves in.
Part of the reason I love SN is that the community frankly doesn't gaf about the "current thing" -- most here likely wised up enough to realize it as mere distraction. There's barely any talk of the situation, and from what there is here that I've read (thanks for the write up today @nando!), I can feel my brain cells returning after losing them to the conversations elsewhere in social media. People here don't immediately whip the verbal knives out on each other like they do on twatter..
But not everyone has the eye for bullshit like bitcoiners do! So tell me:
What's helped you develop the eyes for bullshit, and how do you keep them sharp?
  • my old past surviving in harsh communist regime, forged in fire...
  • sharp mind that always question everything
  • NEVER EVER trust or believe what govs / TV says. They lie ALL THE TIME
  • a good level of common sense
  • "follow the money" and you will find out the root of all evil
  • outside the box thinking. Studying long time how to be out of the system, I can see now the system with another eyes (birdeyes ... sic) and clearly see any BULLSHIT.
  • a high sense of humor makes you don't give a shit about everything.
  • "large groups of people must be controlled". How? With FEAR. Is so fucking simple and worked for millennia on dumb people. So stop living in fear.
very few stackers here knows what is to live in communist regime... and that's why so many of you guys fall into these traps. This is not a joke or bragging. I am a living survivor of those atrocities and you should study more what is coming for you. I warned you so many times here.

Communist regimes build birdeyes…
Appreciate the list darth, and appreciate all you do to help others escape the psyoping!

There is another point that I didn't mention it in this list, but is deep inside of one of my other posts.

I felt and knew superficially a lot about this. I was also born in communism, but in comparison to Darth's experience it was a walk in the park and I was too young. After communism officially ended it seemed to me nothing changed, peoples mentality remained the same, just parroting different phrases. I was already at the entrance of the rabbit hole and Darth "this is Spartaaa-ed" me into it, lol

sorry (but no sorry) for radicalizing you 😂😂😂

This may not fully answer the question, but back when I used Reddit, it took me a while but I finally identified some subs that I used to enjoy but had become nothing but sources for anger and becoming upset. So I unsubscribed and felt much better

The negativity is like a sickness. I know of many others who cant help but stay angry and upset about all the strife in the world -- and their "compassion" just blinds them to their own issues they refuse to address.
Not asking for an answer, but curious just what the "switch" is that you flipped to start avoiding the BS that others seem to have such a hard time finding

The only social media I use is Nostr and Stacker, I dont watch the news. I'm only focused on trying to be more productive, learning more about bitcoin and building.

I do a reset every year where I stop following the news for the month of October, because the propaganda gets most extreme leading up to US elections. It always helps me recalibrate what stories matter and what's just noise.
It's been a bit more challenging this year with the situation in Israel, but I'm trying to stick with it.
Otherwise, I filter most news through an incentives lens. Why is that outlet telling me that story? Does the narrative make sense in terms of the incentives faced by the parties involved?
I also pay attention to the biases of the outlets. I'm very dismissive of stories that closely resemble what a particular outlet tends to get wrong.
Finally, and possibly most importantly, I completely discount anything said by known propagandists (as in outlets that have been caught knowingly spreading falsehoods because it advanced their preferred narrative). I don't assume those outlets are lying, because they tell the truth if that's what's convenient to them. Rather, I attach no weight to what they say and wait for honest/reliable actors to comment on the situation.

What helped me was realized just how common massive lies actually are. Some are blatant. Others are deceptions by leaving out key info. I began to realizing this by reading more broadly. Reading those books you are told you shouldn't read. But actually more importantly just reading books few read. Also, listening to the No Agenda podcast helped me develop a more keen eye for bs. These days it is so blatant that if you simply pay attention to what the elite say from month to month they will show you they are full of bs. They change what they say just as they did in 1984 and act like they never changed.
Some of the skepticism is deep in my personality. I am very curious and want to know how things work. I've lived long enough to know that many are not wired this way. Many are wired in a way that makes it very difficult to question what they are being told. Those evil elites know this and use it to their advantage. IMO you just need to accept this. Its not new. Always been. Many will do almost anything to keep their world view intact. They can't handle thinking that most of what they have been taught are lies. Even if you show them. They don't want to see it.

I used to assume that those in the highest positions had honorable intentions. They couldn't have gotten to the top being bad, right?
That's the easiest idea to cope with.
As I grew, reality simply just set in -- I couldn't unsee the constant, deliberate, intentional, blatant, OBVIOUS gaslighting taking place every. single. day.
reply
Exactly. We are conditioned to think this. Its how society works. When you begin to understand incentives and just how crazy it is for anyone to have the kind of power these people have you realize they have to be sociopaths to even want these positions of power. When you see how they could just tell people the truth about why they go to war but choose to lie and deceive the public you begin to realize how big of a farce it all is.

Know yourself, clean emotional ballast and develop intuition. The more in tune you are, the easier you spot bs.
reply
This 100%. I can feel when I'm distracted, unmotivated, and so many other things. If you spend enough time "talking" to your subconscious, you begin to know how you feel about what you're doing and not merely how you might rationalize what you're doing. To use a programming analogy, paying attention to your emotional state and guiding it are kind of like writing assembly code for your mind ... all the dumb shit you're doing isn't hidden/abstracted away. It's right there staring you in the face.
Tangent ... but I frequently describe joyously doing hard things as a dance with my subconscious, ie how can I get "me" to do what I consciously want to do when "me" is only partially conscious ... I give it what I think it wants.
None of this is fullproof or absolute obviously. Sometimes these assembly routines are impenetrable etchings of garbage shit written well before you started programming yourself.

It's to the point where being labeled a conspiracy theorist is endearing
Some just do NOT want to look, would rather pay attention to anything but what actually matters

Primarily the time it takes.
If something is a distraction but it only takes a couple minutes once it was only a small waste of time. Learn to live with it, don't gripe about it and move on.
If something takes significant time or repeatably wastes my mental load then it's a distraction and i'll delegate or ignore it.

Thank you bro.
The key is to focus in the real thing: your thinking freedom, your family, your job, all of you.
After, don´t let media control your thinking.
You can do it.
Like you`ve said: "Stick to what you can control, don't let the bs distract you".

Nope, I've manage to avoid it. 😳
What's helped you develop the eyes for bullshit, and how do you keep them sharp?
  • See Wikipedia or mainstream media as a counter source; if it says something or someone negative, then maybe it is positive.
  • Verifying things in different languages, most often each place has its version of stories, find out those details and trace them.
  • Generally use popular things as red flags, something to avoid.
reply
all great tactics, especially defining mainstream sources as counter signal. Once I understood this, their actions became so much clearer; when I understood the incentives.
I applaud you avoiding the conflict. It's basically taken over the algorithm for me on trad social media. Need moer stacker newsing. I did/do genuinely enjoy what twitter had to offer, but bitcoin social protocols have proven just how much more value social media can offer.

Think about what the “latest thing” is distracting you from
Think about not saying something stupid so you don’t get Force choked by @DarthCoin
Apply the meme about staying in your lane, moisturised, focused
Ask yourself: Why are you getting worked up about the “latest thing” when you could be doing something better?
reply
I choke force only shitcoiners and bullshiters. People that use their brain to think (not shitGPT) will not be force choked.

Knowing truth in the Bible it says in the end times many will be deceived.. deception is everywhere also read a book on distractions they are there to keep u from knowing your purpose once u know your purpose your no longer a drifter and u remain in your path to greatness most people are drifters looking for the next current thing to move them in a direction good or bad best example is they are like a balloon all u need to do is give a little flick and the balloon goes in another direction...
reply
it's wild to step back and just think about how deception is the default state of media, government, and all things today.
A maximally functioning world set the foundation with honesty, and build from there. Now what tools could help us build that foundation? hmmmmmm.
reply
Just reading them and not making any comment. I usually read news from 5 different sources. I do not create in my mind any additional comment or opinion about the "news". I focus strongly on fact. By the way pretty hard to find out the "truth" if you did not see the action with your own eyes. So if you did not experienced the situation then almost impossible for you to know what it is. The reason why is that we understand things on different level (deepness). Even though two people witnessing the same action, they will describe it differently. We usually see things as we are not as they are.
