Howdy there, partner! Welcome on into the Stacker Saloon.
Saddle on up to a stool and spill the beans about your day, fire away with them questions, or let loose and give us the lowdown on your wild and woolly life. We're all ears, so don't hold back!
We're open round the clock, so mosey on in whenever you please!
That moment when stacker news push notifications pop up in your dreams, lol
Maybe I should disable them, at least on desktop.

I probably shouldn't mix on the same machine that I am using for personal stuff. Hot wallet 'n stuff.
I should probably set up a dedicated laptop with only the internet access required to do the mixing with whirlpool and Sparrow.
However, we all should probably do a lot of stuff in life. But for some reason, we don't. lol
Biggest mystery in life. We know exactly what we have to do, but we just don't do it.
reply
I'll (try to) do it tomorrow.

First look at personalized feeds and subtle divergence. One of the most divergent stackers is on the left and consensus is on the right.
As the site grows, subs are added/subbed, and more spending dimensions are considered, more and more individual divergence will result ... but the intent is to only ever diverge when the difference from consensus is statistically significant.
Almost there.

Here's an unpopular take; I am following Joe Biden's most badly received and seemingly out-of-touch advice ever.
Not sure if ya'll will remember but somebody asked Joe Biden once what coal miners are supposed to do if their jobs disappear to renewables.
Joe's response is one of the most politically ill-advised sentences ever spoken, it received criticism from every which side, people said he was out of touch, whole mess.
He said: "Learn to code"
It really showed that Joe doesn't understand the concerns of regular working people, but at the same time it showed such a fundamental lack of willingness to take responability for regular people's employment that it's actually my favorite thing a politician has ever said.
The president of USA isn't supposed to solve the everyday issues of regular people. His job is to veto bad bills, appoint judges, secure the border, enforce federal laws, and if there's enough time left in the day, sign a very small number of extremely good bills into law.
The fact that he didn't care at all for the trials and tribulations of the average american miner was such a breath of fresh air, though he obviously was trying to actually give viable advice which is terrible.
The attitude of just saying "idfk man, learn to code?" is marvelous, american politics needs more of this. Stop looking to bureaucrats in Washington to sort out your living.
And yes, Joe, I think I will in fact learn to code. Bout damn time I think.

Withdrawing straight from Kraken to SN to fund my wallet for this bounty post for free just blew my mind, lol. Instantly arrived and I was good to go. Meanwhile, bank instant txs cost 1€ and banks don't work on weekends so you can't transfer any funds at all on weekends.
I didn't have any sats on my lightning wallet atm (shame on me), since I just swapped all my sats to onchain for mixing.
Also yes, I buy on CEX, lol

The old double fake. It's more like watching fireworks anyway. I doubt there are many people in the Saloon who would sell regardless.
Ive been visiting family in Europe and now have gotten them interested in holding a little Bitcoin, helps that it just jumped up to 29k. Trying to educate them about BTC as a long hold asset, they know I also dabble in trading and want to separate it in their minds.

As long as it’s not a job requiring you to actually count forms you should be ok. Otherwise you failed the first test…. Good luck!

what is the first test?
i feel like asking this means i would fail the first test haha

The first questions are usually pretty easy; name? (thats on a label in my jacket , sex? (I always say ‘yes please’), date of birth? (my Mommy fills that bit in for me)… it’s not difficult.

For parents, do you think the way you stack sats will be drastically different from the way your children stack theirs? Considering how developers are incorporating zero-knowledge proofs to enable smart contract functionality, furthering what Liquid can do for us etc

For sure. They won't stack sats by buying them. They'll earn them, lol
Not a parent though

@niftynei once said that anyone who has 1 btc will likely be running their own mini bank or something :) (sorry if I'm misquoting)
You remember where you heard about it? I only watched both episodes with her on @kr's podcast.
I want to see/read more stuff where she is involved. She has great insights :)

hi!!! oh man i do not remember where i said this but yes i def do think that running an LN node will get progressively more difficult/expensive— dont wait to start if it’s important to you to have a self-custodial bank!
long term i think we’ll see a proliferation of ecash banks as a cheaper/more scalable way to stack + transact — i expect that owning UTXOs will get expensive!

I foolishly stayed up last night to watch the late NFL game. Big implications for our Survivor Pool. The rest of the weekend I consumed a large dose of SN, and spent many hours switching between "news" sources to watch the international chaos.

Almost the same feeling... it's more common than we think.
reply
It's interesting to think how little we actually need:
  • shelter - a simple place to live
  • food & water
  • living necessities: clothes, cleaning products
  • laptop to work and learn
  • like-minded people to talk
  • Bitcoin
What else?
reply
What else?
internet, else "laptop to work and learn" probably won't work, lol
or is internet already included in bitcoin?
reply
Sunlight.
reply
thanks, it's def one of the things many people take for granted, including me.
reply
  • fresh air
I can't believe I forgot the most important thing - one of the biggest reasons for people to get sick due to polluted air.
reply
Air don’t forget air!

Access to medical? (everyones an island until they need an appendectomy)
A little more nuanced perhaps; Secure shelter, healthy food and accessible & clean water, reliable electricity and network for laptop etc…
reply
Access to medical?
Or let's say knowledge, learning how to heal yourself with natural medicine
Secure shelter, healthy food and accessible & clean water, reliable electricity and network for laptop etc…
yes sir.! And once you think about these, you would be like oh wait then why so many people living in big cities?!? isn't it the opposit direction?
reply
Well, knowledge certainly helps… but it requires practical application and opportunity as well (much like BTC itself).
On the medical specific; I know how to carry out a tracheotomy but could I do it on myself?
reply
how about learning how to avoid needing any surgeries? 😳 I do understand what you mean! but I don't prefer doing any surgeries after my experience of trying three different methods for mole removal, curious to know?

I’m rather keen on emergency medicine and surgeries… almost as if my life depends on it. Can’t speak about other types.
