pro-bitcoin ? nahhh bukele is pro-bitcoin.. this guy is pro-dollarization.. big difference
guess reed macdonal is hunger for content.. one would expect better content on bitcoin mag..
reply
He has some pretty interesting ideas. Dollarization would be good for Argentina, and he is very openly in support of Bitcoin and just flexibility of currency in general (everyone should be able to use their currency of choice officially). I don't think writing him off as "pro-dollarization" is fair. And it's cool to finally have someone stand up for freedom in Argentina
reply
Dollar is the best singular standard of value in the world now, and there is no second best, without going to a composite currency. You all know that, right?
reply
"Dollarization would be good for Argentina"
reply
that would be a good discussion.. you are probably rigth. Despite the bad things it brings, at the current state of the peso.. It would probably work for a while.. betting on the sick dollar is another discussion
reply
dollarization aka giving up on the printing power is not good for any country but the US
reply
well, honestly if your central bank is even more crocked than the FED.. then you chose the lesser evil..
reply
yes it's crooked, but at least the printing is in-house
reply
yes, i understand that.. but as i said, the lesser evil is the dollar, other discussion is the current state of the dollar.. on brink of failure.. where have i read 1 sat is equal now to 1 peso.. while today 2900 sats are 1 dollar its a big difference
reply
not yet. 1 sat = 0.35 peso. but soon. printing benefits those close to the printer. How can it be beneficial to put the printer far away? Imagine moving the Fed to Beijing.
reply
wait... fair? its on his campaing... he is pro dollarizarion..
"Competencia de monedas que permitan a los ciudadanos elegir el sistema monetario libremente o la dolarización de la economía." - this is the original program
He speaks dollar while there is ZERO mention to btc
you cant be serious on your comment
reply
There is no mention of BTC itself in the official plans, that's for sure, but re-read first phrase of the quote you posted here. He's talked about BTC and that quote might as well be a direct reference to it (although it's more of, again, "let people use the currency they want to use, not Argentinian Pesos")
reply
i noticed that,
But you know there will not be a popular vote..
BlackRock already has the dollars ready to make a buck,
Mention to dollar: 1 Mention to btc: ZERO Mention to close the Central Bank obliging to adopt fiat: 1
hes not pro-btc hes pro dollarization..
Ecuador is mentioned 100 times on his speach...
reply
"pro bitcoin" is just as likely affinity scammers attacking bitcoin such as Cynthia Lummis.
Pro bitcoin is an irrelevant question for politicians, bitcoin doesn't need them. Pro liberty is what matters, and no US president comes close to Milei (including Trump, obviously).
Also, El Salvador adopting bitcoin is closer to me telling you I am adopting bitcoin than Argentina. El Salvador economically rounds to 0, Argentina is 40x bigger.
reply
Who, having ever read Bitcoin Magazine, would expect better?
reply
Nah. He advocates for a money market and currencies competition, freely.
reply
Misleading headline. He was favored to win outright based on polls. He placed second.
reply
That's what BM is known for
reply
I don’t get why everyone is obsessed with this election? Even if he is elected the machine will more than likely eat him alive.
reply
because its fun to watch?
reply
Still that would be a wound to the machine.
reply
BM needs to stop calling him Pro-Bitcoin, that's false.
reply
Bitcoin magazine editor should fire whoever wrote that. Milei is not pro-bitcoin, is pro-fiat. Stop faking shit and please, for the love of God, stop pleasing politicians, including El Salvador propaganda.
reply
The currency of Argentina, the Argentinean Peso, is extremely weak (in about a decade it went to 1% of its original value) and almost no one keeps them, they all buy dollars on the streets.
It would make more sense to buy Bitcoin instead, but not sure who would take that fiat.
