I care about safety more than being private, because if you have safety first then you are most likely helping yourself being private.
I currently use:
  • Android Smartphone
  • SimpleX for communication
  • Bitwarden (self-hosted)
That's basically it.
I don't have the need for a VPN, it just slows me down for the work I do. One of the things that I'm currently working on as a web app is a totally free, encrypted and easy to use (quite literally) messaging app. Yes, there's plenty of them, but I'm doing this as a challenge to help 'normies' leave Whatsapp or apps that require information from you, to be honest, to have my family also join, meaning I'm making it easier for my dad, 73 now to talk to me.
My biggest challenge right now it adding an encrypted and secure receptor to the app so I can see his heart rate live from his monitor, it's a bit hardcore and probably not very helpful for most, but, it helps me know his okay even when I'm not there.
