I think adding a "click to view more" button for long posts and comments will be enough :)
What I love about the ‘View More’ button is it would later scale or be extendable for gated or unlockable content too. i.e.pay 100 sats to read more of the article. Should that ever become a thing for custom subs & communities. I see now you said the same on the GitHub issue.
