I have an idea that might already be implemented but maybe not. I’m interested in feedback.
There are many Bitcoin resource lists our there. Some examples are:
I maintain a list for my own purposes at https://github.com/sugarjig/bitcoin-resources.
All of these lists have the goal of curating links to high quality resources about Bitcoin. Each one has a certain focus, such as programming tools, end-user education, or philosophy, but the general idea is the same. There are some challenges with maintaining these lists, though:
  • Culling stale links. Web resources sometimes change their URL or go defunct, so unless the maintainer is actively reviewing previous entries, these stale links will pile up.
  • Culling out-of-date resources. Bitcoin changes so fast that what was once a valuable resource may no longer be a few years later.
  • Determining the most valuable or important resources. Some resources are considered essential by the community. Think The Bitcoin Standard book or The Bullish Case for Bitcoin essay. Some are more minor works valued by many but not necessarily a huge number.
I have an idea floating around in my head to make a website that expands on the concept of a resource list and tries to address these challenges. It would allow users to submit links to resources and other users to up or downvote those links. It would not be unlike SN, but the intent is for a more static collection of links. The essential or canonical resources should float to the top. Anyone learning Bitcoin for the first time would have a good idea of the must reads. Others who are more advanced could explore items that are further down. As time goes on, stale and out-of-date resources can be downvoted or outright removed.
An important feature would be to categorize and/or tag the items to make them more browsable and discoverable. There could also be a discussion attached to each item.
I haven’t really thought through the economics of how this would work. Should users vote by paying sats? What would be the incentive for them to do so? Can users be paid by submitting links?
Sites like AlternativeTo are in the same vein but not quite the same.
It’s possible this could be a sub section of SN.
Does something like this already exist? Is there a non-Bitcoin tool that we can draw inspiration from?
What do you think?
as a maintainer of yet another list of bitcoin resources I strongly welcome this idea

Is it online? Do you mind sharing the address?

What do you think?
Think it's def a much needed project, if done well. Like you suggest, I think the idea to have crowdsourced content like AlternativeTo would be a way. Not sure how the mechanics could work, but seems they implimented things really well. Many of the git-based repo lists seem to be the most specialized/well-curated, and maybe an amboss.space like lightning based approach could also work, with a group of git maintainers?
My idea for direction would be to keep things simple and based on base layer + LN. If new relevant areas/layers would become relevant, like Taro, that would be future development area. The structure would be simple(ish) from there.
Maybe if it were to source talent from SN, the forum itself would be a natural partnership? (Often feel that some of these great resources such as SN or microlancer would benefit further through better integration with each other.)
https://docs.lightning.engineering/community-resources/resource-list seems to be a go to for LND. Something more all-encompassing isstill needed, as a global bitcoin resource. Though that will take time.
http://bitcoin.directory shows that 1-2 years inactive maintenance makes it so much less relevant. Eg. How could you have a list of explorers that wouldn't have either mempool.space or blockchair.com ?
Not sure what TLDs would work. Just thought of satoshi.space
.. already registered! :/

There are many resources to give an overview over the Bitcoin ecosystem. Why don't we make one resource directory once and for all? https://xkcd.com/927/
reply
Haha. I see your point.
reply
I'd enjoy this. You could even use something like Gitbook. I would definitely contribute.
reply
this would be great yeah, i maintain several lists of resources and can relate to all of the points.
The only thing is that lists are sometimes more focused so we need a good way to have some subsections/filtering. For example i keep a list of essential reading for people new to bitcoin space on https://www.bitcoin-ljubljana.si/
@sam i'm definitely updating my list with all the links here :D
reply
Also we need some kind of directory for any dev that want to start working on lightning, with tutorials, videos, examples.
reply
i keep a list of useful resources for lightning node operators (mostly lnd oriented) here https://github.com/aljazceru/lightning-network-node-operator
more general list of all things lightning can be found at https://github.com/bcongdon/awesome-lightning-network
reply
Of course. Lightning would be a first class citizen on a site like this.
reply
It looks like someone started to do this but has abandoned it.
reply
Catchy domain name is a must.
reply
Definitely. Unfortunately everything I can think of is already owned. Maybe someone in the community has a good one they can donate?
reply
No one knows who own it?
reply
The whois data is redacted

Eventually should expire.

This website should be in great need
This website should be in great need
https://bitcoin.page is already a great starting point - Lopp has great credability too - plus it's easy the best name and should work as a link >> bitcoin.page there is also lightning.how too
