During this holiday downtime I have been rereading Digital Gold, by Nathaniel Popper. It's a very entertaining book about the early days of bitcoin. I'm wondering how or if things would be much different if Ross Ulbricht launched now, when he could be using LN? Looking for opinions.
In case anyone is wondering, NO, I am not planning any new business ventures!
No, receiving on LN is extremely weak for privacy.

... I thought it was quite good?

Still my favorite btc history book. NP turned into a hater in the end, right?

It really is a fun read. I'm a sucker for early bitcoin history. Do you have any more recommendations for straight history other than Digital Gold and The Blocksize Wars? I know Jameson Lopp has some good articles focusing on history.

There's a quite recent one that I thought was pretty good. Covers a lot of the same ground, but I don't view that as a problem.
Jesus, I just spent five minutes searching for it and I can't find it bc of the overwhelming amount of bullshit that's everywhere. Son of a bitch. Okay, wait, I remembered that it was written by The Social Network guy. It's this one.

Yes! Thanks for reminding me. I wanted to read this but then it fell off my radar.

Is that right? I know he writes for the NY Times. That might be a job requirement.

Good question. I would need a while to answer, but 2 I really like about economy/bitcoin are The Price Of Tomorrow by Jeff Booth and Broken Money by Lyn Alden, of course. I remember reading Mark Skousen's Complete Guide To Financial Privacy 30 years ago, but I'm sure it's outdated now.

It's funny you asked that. I still have all my old books, but I switched to an ereader years ago. I'm considering switching back to physical books. I'm much more privacy conscious lately. I don't like there existing a record of what I'm reading. There are tradeoffs. Ebooks are much more convenient and easy to store.

Not really BTC oriented, but just finished Same as Ever by Morgan Housel. Much more Psychology and Behavioral focus but told via many economic and financial stories.

If Ross Ulbricht was starting Silk Road today there is no way he would be using bitcoin! https://www.blockchain.com/explorer/addresses/btc/1FfmbHfnpaZjKFvyi1okTjJJusN455paPH
This address is owned by the FBI and was used in the seizure of approximately 144,000 bitcoin from the Silk Road.
All SR transactions were traced... I think he would certainly use other cryptos

Cmon man..You sure?

I appreciate the Invoice of LN as I believe it can't be traced

Not for the sender but the privacy for the receiver is not that good.

While I think Ross Ulbricht fell into a lot of mistakes and mishandling, I don't think bitcoin has helped his privacy or gave protection against tracing. And if anyone doubts my words, here is a revealing as well as frightening piece of the brief. https://antilop.cc/sr/exhibits/GX-620.pdf https://antilop.cc/sr/exhibits/GX-940D.pdf
