If the media or political authorities are trying to dissuade you from something, that something is probably a pretty good thing.

So what are legitimately "illegal" books that you've read in your past? Which do you recommend others trying to find a copy of? How can we get our hands on these books?

Why doesn't the government want us reading these books?

I agree with this. There's a lot of talk about book banning but it's impossible today. Examples of what is called a ban is a library not having a book. That's not a banning. Amazon not selling a book is also not an example. If someone has an actual example of a banned book I'd love to know about it. Heck, in the US they can't even stop the spread of plans to make your own gun. The internet has ended this issue.

There are books that are culturally frowned on though.

Atlas Shrugged
Suicide of the West

First two to come to mind. Reqd both and both are worth reading.

If you cannot get it in an American library you may be economically prohibited. I suppose one has to believe in the concept of public libraries.

This made me curious which books have been banned at the government level.

In the US at least, most seem to be banned on religious/sexuality/fraud grounds. One exception to the rule is Operation Dark Heart which I hadn't even heard of.

I reject the framing of banned books for most people in the world. Its a pysop The exceptions I allow for are North Koreans and maybe the Chinese. Book banning is not possible with the Internet. Reject the mental framing that imprisons us.

I've pirated thousands of books and read many, many of them.

I don't think this is what you were asking... but I think information should be free. Especially when it's simply for my personal benefit. Many of these were science, math or programming related. I am addicted to learning and get antsy when I'm not engorging.

I wouldn't have bought 99% of them anyways. I just use the internet as my personal library.

Piracy is "banned" so-to-speak. So I think this still counts.

A while back there was a publishing company called Loompanics. They carried all kinds of crazy books, it was very interesting to look through their catalog. Paladin Press bought their book list eventually, but Paladin Press also went out of business. Here's some background info.

"Mein Kampf". Although technically it is not banned where I live, people publishing and selling it have had problems with government institutions in the past. And that is biggest PR for this book. Some parts are totally boring (I know you don't like jews, I don't want to read about that multiple pages in a row), some are interesting (how you organized party at the beginning).
