As if fake news wasn't getting bad enough, AI is proving that it's about to get a lot worse.
I understand the immediate red flags drawn on AI because of stuff like this, but those fearing AI are missing the bigger picture I think.
I suspect that many (rightfully) live with the PTSD of how little privacy there is in the world today. Perhaps in the short term (~5-10 years) things may get even more dystopian, but IMO we're nearing the worst of it, and in the long run AI will actually do much more to improve the privacy situation rather than harm it. Much to the dismay of those in power.
Humans simply won't be able to determine what's real or what's fake anymore on the internet (in its current state). Images, videos, online content in general will become far too easy for AI to replicate and craft narratives around in the media.
What's going to be necessary are DIDs, as LeClair puts it:
This also begs the question for Stacker News! @k00b, what do you think about how SN is currently positioned for AI in general? Security measures taken? Any plans for implementation?? Anything really, I am curious to know!
Preston Pysh and Jeff Booth recently had a conversation on the same subject. AI will become so good at finding every little detail about you, that there's now a huge wave of demand coming for cryptographically secured, decentralized custody for both money and information at large.
AI not only creates more of that demand, but also at a much faster rate now that it's starting to get very real. Long term good for bitcoin, and good for people to start living in a more secure online world. Short term, well uhhhhhh ehhhhhhhhh I can't be so sure. Take self custody people.
We'll see how many come out of this environment orange pilled. A LOT i am guessing.

basically just trying to say that more people will learn the fruits of decentralization and hard money because of AI taking advantage of the weaknesses in fiat. Data honeypot leaks will get much worse, more money will get stolen, more reason to try and enforce KYC, etc etc. AI makes the problem loud and clear. Our security measures are weak. The internet isn’t safe store of information. Custodians are vulnerable. But those are the problems we live in today, not the future.
The doom ppl see there is certainly warranted, but I try to remind that the doom drives incentive for solutions. A much safer internet, much better money, much better lives overall are around the corner for everyone. The key is letting decentralization in, which is the real hard part. Fiat statists are resisting that and creating more fear in the people. Same playbook over and over again, but over time all it does is push more people to bitcoin.
Growing pains.

Yup, at least the optimist in me thinks so
And not just in the hands of an entrepreneur, lord knows there's plenty of shady ones too. More importantly, AI not being in the control of anyone. Not letting anyone dictate how the entrepreneur uses AI. Let the market dictate that.

If AI is outsmarting people, it'll also outsmart me. Maybe it won't outsmart an AI designed to detect AIs outsmarting people ... but then it's your standard arms (ha!) race.
I don't think DIDs do anything for proving whether someone is a human or not. Dylan precludes infallible instantiation and custody of identity. Until we know that's possible, it's safe to assume it isn't; eg who is verifying the verifiers? PKI is vulnerable in all sorts of ways, and decentralized PKI trades some vulnerabilities for new ones.
A victory over AI fakes requires proof of humanness be trivial to create and verify but asymmetrically difficult to forge. Possession of a cryptographic key is not proof of humanness. For the time being an initial verification process that depends on a person having a physical body is verifying humanness, but how long until AI has a human like body? Even with a perfect initial verification process, something like DIDs exist to avoid reinitializing verification so they'll require infallible private key custody.
People fall for AI content shared here already and it isn't even that good. afaict the best we can do right now is make approval of content and people costly in an unforgeable way.

Thanks, I knew you would have much more nuance to share on the subject haha
That all makes sense. Especially making creating a digital identity difficult but proving its humanness easy, i can only imagine how tricky a problem that is.

AI with bitcoin will be better than AI without bitcoin, but the same is true for everything.

I start to think that @k00b is an AI sentry that created SN to keep us all busy here... But I see him every Friday on SNL with @Car and seems to be a real living man. But who knows... nowadays you can create any face on a screen and broadcast it.
Anyways, they created another "monster" on SN... 😂😂😂😂😂

Don’t think it’ll happen like that darth 😭 only if bitcoin fails do I see that outcome, but that’s why we’re here right??
That podcast I linked does a good job explaining more of the nuance about the world with AI with bitcoin vs without, but TL;DR it’s fiat fear instilled over time that people like you and I are conditioned to apply to new technology, but bitcoin breaks that paradigm

The Pandora's Box was open... There's no way back. And with the nowadays people's stupidity, will go on a rampant acceleration. Bitcoin can't save us if we are not saving ourselves... Bitcoin is just code. But people are retarded and don't want to be saved.
I have to hurry up my construction, who knows, maybe I need a fucking fortress in the end.

I believe it’s tools like bitcoin that exist to mitigate/suppress the volatility of our stupidity
We’ll see I guess, pls install a bird house outside for me in case I seek refuge too!

There are many rumours that Q* managed to learn how to decrypt. I don't think so. But this would be bad for crypto and for privacy and security in the world. They said that it was good at math. What kind of math, the one used in Cryptography? Hmmmm who knows maybe one day it is all over.

If it was true market would’ve nuked BTC already
